Illuminating, thoughtful and nuanced thread / report on a topic too easily oversimplified: school exclusions …
Excited to be publishing a major piece of teacher, parent and student opinion research on the ever-challenging subject of exclusions.
Thanks to the support of @mission44, we were able to carry out what is, I think the ever biggest exercise of its kind on this subject. 1/10

NEW on Wonkhe: Rachel Wolf argues the tuition fee rise doesn't signal Labour's confidence in universities - they must show value to communities and working people wonkhe.com/blogs/universitie…
This is uncanny. I can remember distinctly this episode and this tiebreaker. It was 28 years ago. Christ.

Four years ago, during lockdown, I was approached by the ever inspiring @_JaneLunnon and @drdavidajames for an urgent conversation about how the school sector should respond to the growing mental health crisis among young people 1/5
Good for him, but literally what’s the point of a Test match where the pitch has so far allowed over 1100 first innings runs for 13 wickets. Total waste of time.
👏 R💯💯T 😍

Fun fact - TOTAL “film, tv, video, radio and photography” GVA is £20bn of this £125bn. So the “film” bit, getting this tax relief, is even smaller.
Fun fact no2 - the “creative industries” number is quite so big cos “IT, software and computer services” makes up £53bn of it……
Is the no10 role fundamentally unmanageable? When was the last time no10 had a genuinely transformative figure in one of the three main roles - CoS / Cab Sec / No10 PPS? And why is the answer always Jeremy Heywood?
I’ll give Jonathan Powell as well. And *maybe* Ed Llewellyn
But Stephen Carter / Dan Rosenfield / Gavin Barwell / Nick Timothy / Mark Sedwill / Ed Lister - a whole heap of people who were outwardly well qualified who were crushed by being either Cab Sec or CoS
Fundamentally, making the person who is in charge of the governing agenda (CoS) and the political interface with govt also in charge of politics and elections is a silly move. The two roles are fundamentally different and this seems a mistake
As per @AgnesChambre two sources telling me Sue Gray has quit.
She handed in her notice this morning said one though rumours it was likely surfaced on Thursday
She lost a big internal power battle over PPS appointment
Morgan McSweeny is the replacement
This is quite the thread (skip to the end once you’ve got the gist from the first hundred tweets or so that the teaching and assessment is shit)
Earlier on today, OfS published an investigation into the quality of business and management courses provided by RTC Education Ltd, which trades as Regent College London - not to be confused with Regent's University London. officeforstudents.org.uk/pub…

I’ve thought about it, and I’ve concluded that no, I will never ever ever ever get tired of Man Utd being absolutely this dog shit bad
Assuming this is true - and has the hallmarks of being well sourced - then it is a brave, clever and welcome decision by government.
Tuition fees will rise in line with inflation and maintenance grants will be restored for the poorest students under government plans to bolster the finances of struggling universities thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…
And welcome because all the indicators are that the sector is suffering extreme financial challenges, with 40% of universities in deficit.
This rise rightly - won’t solve all of that. Unis will still have to, and should, restructure to become efficient and meet student demand
