One cannot annex one's sovereign territory. The West Bank and Gaza were within Israel's borders as of the declaration of statehood in 1948. The West Bank was occupied by Jordan and Gaza by Egypt in their aggressive war in 1948. It was recovered in 1967.
On the status of the disputed territories in international law and the legality of "settlements".

Elisabeth Abegg, a brave German teacher who openly opposed the Nazis, saved over 80 Jews by hiding them in her Berlin apartment throughout the war. Honoured as Righteous Among the Nations in 1967:

This is Palestinian peace.
⚠️ WARNING: GRAPHIC RAW FOOTAGE ⚠️ This is Wafa Samir Ibrahim al-Biss, from Jabalia, walking toward the hospital that kept her alive with about twenty pounds of explosives sewn into her clothes. In late 2004, a gas canister blew in her home and burned her badly. Israel took her into Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, treated the wounds, and sent her home with permits to come back for more care. In June 2005 she used those same papers to try to get through the Erez Crossing. Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah (Mahmoud Abbas’s group), had given her three targets to choose from… a bus, a cafe, or the hospital and doctors that had treated her. She chose the hospital. She later said she wanted to kill dozens of people there, INCLUDING CHILDREN. Guards noticed her awkward walk. They pulled her aside, so she yanked the detonator. But it failed to detonate. Sappers later blew the belt in a controlled explosion. The IDF arrested her at the Erez Crossing, and a military court gave her twelve years. Then Palestinian television did what it always does with these people. It praised her. It thanked her for the sacrifice. It thanked her for wanting Jews dead. In 2011 Hamas traded hostage Gilad Shalit for more than a thousand prisoners. Yahya Sinwar walked out in that deal. So did she. The next day children were brought to her house in northern Gaza. She told them she hoped they would walk the same path, and that Allah willing some of them would become martyrs. The kids cheered. She said the button had failed at the last second and she was sorry she had not been martyred. Years later she was still saying she would do it again in a minute, that she had almost tasted paradise, and that killing Jews at the hospital that saved her was her calling. That is who came home in the Shalit deal. Not a girl who made a terrible mistake. A woman the society sent, celebrated, and then handed back to the same children. Watch the video. This isn’t resistance. That’s a patient trying to murder her doctors who saved her and as many civilians and children as possible, and a Palestinian society calling it holiness. H/T Anthony Lee for the translation.

On this day—September 25, 1991 Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, died in a French prison, unrepentant, after 40 years of freedom the United States Army helped buy him. On April 6, 1944, he raided the Jewish children’s home at Izieu. He abducted 44 children and seven adults. That night he telexed Paris: the children’s colony had been dissolved; transport to Drancy in the morning. Most of the children were gassed at Auschwitz on arrival. Léa Feldblum lived and testified against him in 1987. Army counterintelligence hired him in 1947 to hunt communists, then walked him down a rat line to Bolivia under the assumed named, Klaus Altmann. France had already condemned him to death in absentia. At trial, he said that if he were born a thousand times he would do the same thing a thousand times over. He lived free for 40 years. He served four.

This is the birth registration of my sister Jenta who was born on September 9, 1941 in the Bedzin Ghetto to my Estera Sledzik and a father. I got to see this when I visited Bedzin in 2022. My father was so traumatized he never told us about her. I only learned about her in 2021. She was murdered 11 months and 9 days later in an Auschwitz gas chamber along with her mother and sister and our grandmother. They killed her for no other reason than she was Jewish. Details are in my memoir OUT FROM THE SHADOWS.

Never ever disparage Ambassador @GovMikeHuckabee @USAmbIsrael Mike Huckabee has lately spoken about settler violence. He is clear that Jews have every right to live in and govern Judea and Samaria. The people causing trouble are a tiny, non-representative handful. They do not speak for the settler community or the movement itself. Their actions are a small problem next to the scale of Palestinian terrorism. Still, many of us who live here wish he would stay silent on the subject. Public comments give oxygen to those who exaggerate the phenomenon in order to smear an entire community and, by extension, Israel. That disagreement does not change the larger truth. Ambassador Huckabee is one of the greatest friends Israel has ever had. He has visited this land more than a hundred times and brought ten thousand Americans with him so they could see it with their own eyes. He refuses the language of “occupation” and “West Bank.” He speaks of Judea and Samaria because that is what the land has been called for three and a half millennia, and because the Jewish people hold the deed given to Abraham. He has stood at groundbreaking ceremonies in our communities, considered buying a home in Efrat, and held his first official meeting as ambassador with settler leaders at Shiloh. He rejects the two-state formula that has failed for decades and treats Israel’s decisions about sovereignty in Area C as Israel’s to make. His support is not political fashion. It is rooted in the biblical covenant and in a lifetime of Christian Zionism that brought him here as the first evangelical ambassador. We can differ with him on one narrow point and still recognize his record. His job is to represent the closest friend Israel has in the world. He does that every day. Israelis should give him nothing but the highest respect. We are grateful he is here.

From what I understand, there is some fierce opposition to Hamas and its destructive ideology, though Hamas themselves give them the sane treatment they do Israelis.

David Collier (@mishtal) and Rachel Feldman just published a 101-page investigation into Mohsen Mahdawi. Among the posts the attributed to him is: “Soon, very soon, we will annihilate the Jews.” Now take a look at how Mahdawi was sold to us by our politicians and media: @nytimes headlined its profile: “He Wanted Peace in the Middle East. ICE Wants to Deport Him.” @CBSNews and @60Minutes presented him in a segment titled “Columbia student on the fight for a free Palestine and the fight against antisemitism.” @theintercept built its defense of Mahdawi around an Israeli colleague asking: “How can I take anyone seriously talking about Mohsen being antisemitic?” @tricyclemag published a piece describing him as “a young leader in the Gandhi/MLK mold” who repudiated hate speech. @ColumbiaSpec headlined its profile of his friends defending him: “‘Thoughtful, compassionate, intelligent.’” @jdforward published an op-ed by @DavidNMyersUCLA calling Mahdawi “a unifier, not a divider” and “an advocate of peace, not war.” Myers also insisted that Mahdawi was especially fierce in his opposition to antisemitism. @DAWNmenaorg called him “The Peacemaker They Failed to Silence.” @democracynow headlined an interview with the claim that Mahdawi’s arrest showed “Peacemakers Are Not Welcome.” And it wasn’t only the media. @bradlander called Mahdawi a “powerful example” of “compassion & peacemaking,” said he was honored to call him a friend and looked forward to celebrating his American citizenship. @SenSanders said he was “delighted” when Mahdawi was released. @SenSanders, @SenPeterWelch and @RepBeccaB jointly called his detention “immoral, inhumane, and illegal.” @jstreetdotorg rallied support for this “young Palestinian activist facing deportation.” @PENamerica called his release a “vindication for free speech.” @jvplive called for his release as one of the activists imprisoned for “defending Palestinian rights.” The @ACLU represented him and published a statement calling him “a peaceful man and a valued member of his communities.” Bhikkhu Bodhi, president of the Buddhist Association of the United States, said he was convinced “beyond even the tiniest dust-mote of doubt” that Mahdawi was “a man of peace.” He also called him “an extraordinary asset” and urged that he be granted American citizenship. A coalition of 135 Buddhist leaders similarly claimed that Mahdawi had demonstrated a “consistent commitment” to nonviolence and compassion and had “directly confronted antisemitism.” These people and institutions didn’t merely remain silent because they didn’t know who Mahdawi was. They put their names and reputations behind him, demanded that he remain in America and helped construct an entire public image of a gentle peacemaker who opposed antisemitism. Now that the record has been placed in front of them, let’s see how many corrections, retractions and apologies we get. My guess? None.
