What is this weird thing in tech (or maybe just generally in business now?) that is the “everyone is useless but me” meme.

Two points:
1) My colleagues at the German multinational I used to work at loved to remind me that Russia's economy is smaller than Italy's whenever some inane story appeared about 45, Putin, security, etc.
(I mean there's def a story here about geopolitical vs economic focus)
