Chani being rewritten from a submissive colonized woman to an actual character with depth and convictions is a massive improvement and we need to stop pretending that the entirety of the Dune books have aged well. They haven’t. And Denis’ interpretation and reinvention of Chani’s character is an unequivocal improvement and thinking otherwise just reads as a dislike for women characters having autonomy and nuance in writing.
