1/25/24 1500 the first time I led a trauma Extremely grateful for the best mentors who push me, inspire me, and remind me that this is a job, despite how much I want to make it a lifestyle. Here for the marathon, not the sprint.

Happy National Black Women Physician Day to everyone because Black women physicians make the world a better, safer, and more excellent place every day.

Home. Complete with the familiar smells and surroundings. It feels weird to be back where I spent so much time wondering what my role in society would be. With Hokas that cost more than my entire outfits used to cost. And now I'm 106 days from my M.D. What a wild ride life is.

Really touching “letter to patients” from ⁦@laura1127md⁩ from @NemoursRads summing up the often unspoken & unheard feelings of #PedsRads & PediNeuroRads towards their patients. #ASPNR24 #PedsNeuro

What a privilege & honor it is to be in these moments, many of which patients and loved ones will remember and talk about for the rest of their lives. I won't remember the exact lessons I learned from each patient, but I can see how they all accumulate to provide a foundation.

One practice I recently added is taking a moment in the empty room after a patient passes to pray for their loved ones because while they're no longer on my patient list, the journey is far from over for the loved ones. And I myself need to acknowledge my humanity in some way.

Not sure how I'm more energized by staying late to scrub into one more case than sleeping the recommended hours, but I'm here for it. Back-to-back Acute Care Surgery rotations at different hospitals for months has been quite a journey & each moment so precious, for many reasons.

She chose hospice and I stopped the morning blood draws no more stings so early in the day waking just to watch the universe within her seep away one vial at a time

2013 me was pressured into having a "free" spinal surgery, told I may never walk again without it. It didn't actually fix the problem. 2023 me is running down to the OR for scrubbing opportunities & interviewing to become a surgeon. Surprised, yes. Grateful, tremendously.
Would the younger you in 2013 be surprised where you are today and what you have been able accomplish in the past decade?
