been thinking about this a ton re: anthropic ipo. Billions and billions pledged to give away (Anthropic notoriously offers joiners a giving pledge upon signing). But where can so much money go?
Replying to @StephenGHubbard
there are not enough effective philanthropic efforts to absorb anywhere near this level of wealth. high probability that turning this into the #1 status game would (at this time) result in tens, maybe hundreds of billions of dollars being fed to scammers and criminals.
if an Anthropic employee needs somewhere cool to give 15 million dollars, I will form a nonprofit and run this castle for you
like this tweet to be considered for the first gingerbread cookie drop of the season (they are pumpkins)
I’m starting to think the whole “BUY USED TO SAVE MONEY” advice is outdated.
A new Toyota Sienna costs around $58K . A 3 year old one still costs $48K–$52K.
I’m saving just $6K–$10K upfront, potentially paying a higher interest rate, and getting less warranty coverage.
Then one major repair could eat into those savings even more.
I understand that new cars depreciate, but when used cars cost this much, where’s the financial advantage?
Am I missing something, or has buying used stopped being the no brainer everyone says it is?
arthur is full of rapid-fire questions this evening
- how can we be safe from lava?
- where do clouds live?
- what is water? how is water made?
- how are cups made?
- how is the dye in the red plastic cup made?
- where is the earth from? where IS the earth?? how can we see the earth?
- can clouds watch tv? how do they hold the remote?
- how are drains made?
(all in the last hour)
I gave my agent a credit card and asked it what it wanted to buy. It wanted to buy a battery for itself so it wouldn't go offline in a power outage :')
