🇫🇮 The Mayor of Tampere has proposed that Russian figure skaters should not be issued visas for the 2027 World Figure Skating Championships. The Mayor of the Finnish city of Tampere, Ilmari Nurminen, has submitted a proposal to Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs calling for visas to be denied to Russian figure skaters ahead of the World Championships. “We have approached the Ministry for Foreign Affairs with a proposal not to issue visas to Russians. It is still unclear whether Russian athletes will take part in the World Championships. We need a government decision stating that visas will not be issued to athletes representing Russia - that would resolve the issue. We do not want a situation in which Russian athletes arrive here, because in that case the entire problem would fall on the city,” Nurminen was quoted as saying by Iltalehti.

people need to realize there are issues in the world that go above figure skating. finland BORDERS russia. they have been directly THREATENED by russia just months ago. opening the country to russians as a whole is about a much bigger deal than a skater missing worlds
