On Lord Richard Attenborough's troubling Magic (1978), for @reverse_shot's haunting Great Pumpkins roundup.

Hannibal Lecter, sure. Real Anthony Hopkins heads shiver at the thought of his Charles “Corky” Withers in 1978's creepy ventriloquist thriller MAGIC. Playing today @MovingImageNYC in 35mm. @justinstew writes on MAGIC for A Few Great Pumpkins Night 2: reverseshot.org/features/352…

Judd Apatow making a doc about Garry Shandling is fine - they were friends and creative partners. But who deputized him as the official Comedy Chronicler in all these bloated, mediocre other docs? Norm et al. deserve better.

Jiminy Glick grilling Kurt Russell on why Snake Plissken wears an eye patch is one of the show's best moments. You can actually see Martin Short emerge and get genuinely frustrated at Russell for giving such a glib answer 😂

David Robert Mitchell has a new film in theaters. I wrote about his previous film seven years ago for @reverse_shot. I think it turned out alright. Check it out. reverseshot.org/reviews/entr…

Under the Silver Lake

Mitchell crafts a shaggy dog mystery with various potentially aimless threads to create a pervasively hallucinatory atmosphere that suggests danger behind every corner and answers just out of reach.

RIP Brooklyn Vegan. Absolutely bewildering. Thinking of all the great people there and the unparalleled music coverage they’ve done over the years. Utterly unceremonious and moronic actions by Veeps.

Armie Hammer backtracks after starring in racist film ‘CITIZEN VIGILANTE’ by calling it “hateful” and “disgusting.” Hammer was reportedly not given a full script, and was ‘in tears’ after watching the final cut. (Source: puck.news/newsletter_content…)
