Wow, glad to see you think this is the future of robotics simulation! Since I don't have the vantage point to see what internal sim2real/r2s2r pipelines look like, I don't have the experience to make a similar claim myself. That said, I do believe in the potential of the method! There are some fun challenges I can foresee to get there: • Architecture: our method is voxel-based and it thrives when modeling dynamics in a compact workspace. However, modeling larger scenes invokes the perennial tradeoff between voxel resolution and processing speed. Maybe with good sparse voxel kernels this is ok! We're also working on an egocentric version of this attached to the robot base for room-scale simulation of mobile manipulation, which I'm also excited about! • Availability of data: I'm confident our model will work given the *right* data, but it might take a lot of effort to collect this data since our model's advantages only appear when we have more complete scene captures. Another path I see is using sparse reconstruction methods like Atlas from @theworldlabs, which could enable training from a lot of the partial data that exists. Learning a scene prior from simulation would also be interesting. • Reliability: let's say that the ingredients come together and it works. For it to be truly useful, there's still the fundamental problem of going ood and reward hacking if used for RL when visiting infeasible states or due to data bias. Perhaps since our method uses a native 3D representation, we could add/learn constraints or privileged knowledge that reflect the physical world. I do think that there's a much higher hope in 3D compared to 2D though!
Without a doubt this is to me the future of robotics simulation. and it's incredibly cool that you can play around with it and interact with it. but i also think you can see how incredibly *data limited* this sort of approach is. limited workspace, gripper closure artifacts. would be amazing to see this at frontier lab scale.

What a 3D World Simulator!! 🤯 Play w/ the world model: [📌 GitHub below] A super-fast interactive AI that runs robot scenes at over 50 frames per second on a single high-end GPU…! It predicts realistic camera views, 3D shapes, and touch signals all at once, and handles tough cases like folding cloth or objects held in a robot’s hand without needing special tracking. But the main payoff… you can train and test full robot control policies entirely inside the simulator!! Using vision and touch, and they perform almost as well as policies trained on real-world data. Thanks for sharing, @jwang771 ! Play with the world model: jwang771.github.io/3dworldsi… 👉 If you like content like this, follow for more!

Very cool work! Side prediction: just as RL environments are critical for VLMs (e.g., Blender for 3D capabilities), scalable sim / action-conditioned world models will become increasingly more relevant for robot capabilities

Thanks Stone! I honestly do believe that this could work given the right design choices and right data. The last one is a big if though. The advantage of our method scales with the information content in the data (e.g. from extra cameras), which may make things more cumbersome. Perhaps tools like sparse reconstruction methods (Atlas?), or learning privileged priors from sim could help! However, I do wonder if this will ever get robust enough to do RL and get legitimate signal. Since its native representation is in 3D, it could be easier to enforce constraints and avoid adversarial reward hacking.
these world model sims are getting better and better! that being said, data bias probably is still a big issue (robot grasps cloth even if its not touching it). Solve this, scale up a bit, and this could be a great way to simulate all the complex phenomena of the world

A closer look at the interactive demo of our 3D World Simulator 🤖 You can control the robot and move the camera around directly in your browser as the model predicts interactions in 3D with rigid, articulated, and deformable objects! No install needed! jwang771.github.io/3dworldsi…
Excited to share 3D World Simulator! 🤖 We jointly predict appearance, geometry, and touch in explicit 3D, supporting interactive, long-horizon world simulation at 50 Hz: jwang771.github.io/3dworldsi… The model handles tasks involving rigid, articulated, and deformable objects, including cloth folding, part assembly, and rope threading. I'm especially excited about the controllability that 3D gives us: choosing camera views and composing different simulation "backbones" by combining learned interaction dynamics with Gaussian backgrounds and kinematic robot models. Following our earlier Interactive World Simulator, this is another step toward scalable robot policy learning and evaluation! Huge credit to @jwang771 and the team! ❓I keep coming back to this: what tactile representation does manipulation need? We introduce PanoTac: A dense three-axis Tactile Sensor. In the demo, the robot reorients and inserts a tube, then wiggles the stopper free while the tube sits loosely in the rack. The right side show the tactile signals that helps robot detect when the stopper releases and when to switch from wiggling to lifting. (1/7)

Can world models go beyond predicting pixels to simulating the world in 3D? Excited to share 3D World Simulator—an interactive 3D world model that supports long-horizon rollouts. The explicit 3D representation ensures spatial consistency and unlocks the potential for compositional scene control. Check out the thread for more details!

When we talk about world models these days, we often mean video models. They can generate realistic videos, but the underlying 3D scene are not explicitly modeled. Can we train a model to predict the future directly in 3D? That question led us to 3D World Simulator. It predicts how a scene evolves in 3D, with long-term stability comparable to that of video world models. Once you have a predicted 3D scene, you can render it from any camera angle. All the views stay consistent because they come from the same scene. You can also swap backgrounds, switch robot embodiments, and even incorporate tactile data. This was a really fun project led by @jwang771! Check out the project website and code. As always, we’re releasing everything together. 🚀🚀🚀

Predicting what a robot will feel as it moves. Our 3D World Simulator learns to predict touch as 3D particles alongside scene geometry, keeping tactile signals aligned with contact surfaces as interactions unfold. Learning from these predicted visual and tactile observations helps robots perform contact-rich manipulation in the real world. Glad to see a world model learning from FlexiTac data. The tactile predictions look really impressive!

An interactive 3D world simulator just dropped! This world simulator operates in a unified 3D representation space spanning point clouds, voxels, and 3D Gaussians, and renders multi-view consistent RGB-D images. Try the interactive 3D demo on our website - you can drag both the gripper and the camera around. The cloth dynamics are insanely good! You can stretch, crumple, and even drop the cloth. Check it out!
