What I have learned working with survivors is that survivors are often failed more than once: first, by the person who harms them, and then by the very systems that are supposed to prevent, investigate, and respond to sexual violence. My piece in @TIME👇 time.com/article/2026/10/02/…

Sexual assault and trafficking protection shouldn't be political. The Republican Party once understood that. Trump and Vivek Ramaswamy have abandoned this fundamental responsibility and putting politics first.
Trump: "Why wouldn't you listen to a mother that says that?" @albamonica: "She stayed with a stepfather who was charged with raping his stepdaughter in 1978, sir." Trump: "You just keep talking." Alba: "I am answering you, sir." Trump: "I don't know anything about stepfathers."

Who says small states can’t do big things? Just today NM AG Raul Torrez sued Epstein’s attorney and accountant, alleging they concealed his sex-trafficking operation and won a $25 billion judgment against @Meta. @NewMexicoDOJ isn’t afraid of big fights and keeps winning.

Whether politics or comedy movies, saying no to Mike Tyson shouldn’t be hard.

What are we doing, America? Another woman raped while simply going about her life and in this case putting up a sign for her congressional campaign. This cannot be normal. As a society we are failing women and we must demand better. newrepublic.com/post/216341/…

"The allegations in the complaint involving Cornell's campus are deeply disturbing...... Universities have an equally urgent responsibility. A sexual-assault report cannot be treated as a public-relations problem to contain quietly." time.com/article/2026/10/02/…

As a former sexual violence counselor, I concur. The system protects the accused. Victims (male or female) are blamed for their words, clothes, even their presence at a location. We can and should do better.

So honored to know and call @kabarkoff a dear friend & mentor. I’ve watched her first hand take on these fights time and time again and never wavier from the truth and honor of seeking justice for those who have been failed so many times before.
"Survivors deserve institutions that prevent harm where possible, respond effectively when harm occurs, and refuse to protect reputations at the expense of safety, dignity, and justice. We should not still be here in 2026, asking why," writes Kendra Barkoff Lamy time.com/article/2026/10/02/…

Thank you @S_Fitzpatrick Such an important issue
“No survivor should have to go public to be believed. No survivor should have to become a national story to receive a competent investigation. And no college should wait for headlines to do what it was obligated to do from the start.”

The U.S. Secret Service is there to protect the President, not to enforce the removal of media outlets that have done nothing wrong. Where are the former agents speaking out against the USSS being used as a tool to carry out a Trump’s personal agenda against the press?
