He stood there with his arms crossed, completely at ease in the cascading autumn light. A red maple leaf drifted onto his shoulder, but he didn't even bother to brush it off. His half-lowered golden eyes were brimming with warm sunlight and a gentle smile.
"Found it! Look, Valko, it has to be this one this time, right?"
Holding it by the stem, she waved it in front of him like a prized treasure, her bright eyes full of absolute certainty.
Valko slowly lowered his gaze. Though he only cast a lazy glance at the red leaf, a smile he couldn't hide spilled into his eyes. From the very beginning, his gaze had been entirely fixed on her focused, slightly flushed profile.
"Hmm, this one looks very special too."
"...Then what about this one?"
"Nope."
"Valko!"
"Hmm?"
"Wait a minute—" She suddenly stopped, narrowed her eyes, and looked up at him. "How do you know it's not the right one every single time?!"
