Residents of Region 7, this morning there were videos and pictures circulating about deteriorating water from the Cullinan Hydrant.
I can assure residents that only two tankers collected water from this hydrant and they were immediately withdrawn from service. The water was discarded and was not distributed to communities.
Our teams are testing the water supply at the Cullinan Hydrant.
City owned water tankers and the tanker from Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa are the only approved distributors of water this morning. These tankers fill up supply from Watloo Hydrants.

Water Alert: The City’s Water and Sanitation Department was this morning altered to water deterioration at the hydrant located in Cullinan.
As a precaution, all water tankers drawing from this hydrant have been halted and those that have already withdrawn from it, have been instructed to return to the hydrant and dispose of collected water and commence with flushing whilst we proceed with investigating the matter.
The samplers from Scientific Service will assist with testing the water.
This setback will delay provision of water supply through water tankers whilst we finalise the compliance process for the alternative hydrant to collect from.
Supply has been halted and the water was not delivered to communities.
Trucks have been instructed to discard the water. We apologise to residents for the inconvenience caused as water supply has been delayed. @CityTshwane

This is a 36,000 litre water tanker that’s been donated by Coca Cola to assist with the delivery of water to residents in Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas.
We welcome the support shown by private sector stakeholders as the City and Rand Water make headway to restore water supply through the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant.
The truck will be stationed at the Bronkhorstspruit Hospital, Cultura High School and Riamar Park Shopping Complex. @CocaCola_ZA @CityTshwane

This afternoon, I met with religious leaders in Rethabiseng, Region 7. The purpose of the engagement was to provide feedback and an update to religious leaders and the wider community of Rethabiseng about the progress we’ve made at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant and the provision of water to residents through water tankers, Jojo Tanks and boreholes. The City is currently investigating reports of an explosion on the Hans Strydom route, next to Nellmapius X24. The Energy and Electricity Business Unit is investigating whether this incident may be linked to the power outage affecting large parts of Pretoria East. @CityTshwane

We have engaged Rand Water to bring its technical expertise and capacity to support the City in accelerating the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works.
Rand Water is already assisting with maintenance and assessing the interventions needed to restore the plant to the required standards.
Our immediate priority is to restore access to clean, safe drinking water for affected communities, while ensuring that the necessary upgrades provide a reliable and sustainable water supply into the future.

I am on the ground at Dark City Clinic in Ekangala, Region 7, engaging public health workers and community members as part of our ongoing response to the Bronkhorstspruit water crisis.
Together with senior City management, I am assessing the public health response, overseeing the provision of safe alternative drinking water and ensuring that residents receive the information and support they need.
Our priority remains protecting affected communities, preventing further illness and restoring a safe and reliable water supply.

Our communities have become increasingly disengaged from politics. As politicians, we are called to lead, but leadership means little without accountability.
Government is not an institution that belongs to politicians, it is an institution of the people, created to serve the people.

When I became Mayor in October 2024, I inherited a municipality in serious financial difficulty, with four consecutive unfunded budgets and more than R13 billion in accumulated debt, including approximately R6.7 billion owed to Eskom.
Families in Ikageng had endured eight years without reliable water, residents
in Soshanguve faced repeated electricity outages, and approximately one in three economically active residents could not find work. That was the Tshwane we inherited.
We could have spent our time blaming the previous administration, explaining the problems and making excuses for the state of our capital.
Instead, we chose to get to work.
Today, we present The Tale of Tshwane, our vision for turning the page on failed government and building a Capital City that works for its people.
As ActionSA, we are asking residents to give us #5MoreYears to continue the work of rebuilding Tshwane, restoring confidence and putting residents first.
The next chapter belongs to the people of Tshwane. 🇿🇦
