If you're a journalist who covered AI doomer calls for regulation, now you must cover what is actually going on with AI regulation. I don't make the rules. Here are some starting points: 🧵 - White House national R&D strategy for AI: whitehouse.gov/ostp/news-upd…

Twitter vs not Twitter isn't a simple binary, particularly not for news journalism. The 24 hour global connectivity has changed almost everything about workflows in newsrooms and even for freelance journalists. It changes commissioning, newsgathering, sourcing, verification...

FYI, reporters: Around 3,000+ contractor employees of Twitter were canned last night (totally normal thing to do, btw). How does Twitter have so many contractors? This is where the CONTENT MODERATOR numbers are hidden. They are called “agents” at Twitter.

Twitter employees could stop all layoffs by having all employees stick together and shut down all operations til they reinstate all. Strike. Form a union. We're in the biggest strike wave in the US since the 40s, w thousands of strikes in last 2yrs. Tech workers- get on board.

THE ENTIRE HUMAN RIGHTS TEAM. Read that again. Read it. Let it sink in.
Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company. I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia,

I read that in my best NPR voice but yes.
Times have been tough in this Ohio town ever since the woke mob shut down the old rainbow fentanyl factory. So when Elon Musk promised everyone they could post Nazi slogans on Twitter, they finally had something to celebrate. But then the advertiser boycott began.

THIS.
Right now, and I mean this instant, delete every digital trace of any menstrual tracking. Please.
Hate and rage. That's where I'm at right now.

Years in the making. We're also seen his impunity and the way fanboys in "AI" were idolizing him and benefiting from doing so.
Replying to @Tweetermeyer
Even more importantly: his abusive behavior, his impunity and the unfathomable wealth they have generated for him create incentives for everyone else to mimic his behavior. Even if you think Musk deserves special treatment, do you want a society where everyone acts like him?

This is the amount of paperwork I needed to prepare for my visa to #ICA22 . I was told after that it is most likely going to be rejected. I am frustrated and don't want to start a thread on visas inequality but I am tired.

We need to focus on the ways in which social media companies profit from extremism - beyond production and reception, the role of intermediaries matters - says @kcoyer at #EULOC #CIVICA workshop @ceu @CIVICA_EU @lseideas @lsenews @SNSPA_oficial

Delighted to be working with the crew at @CodaStory these days! Last week, I got to think a bit on Elon Musk's possible takeover of @Twitter and speak with some great brains on the subject. Thank you @nixxin @MishiChoudhary @feathersproject @endalk2006 codastory.com/authoritarian-…

Taking a moment to think about how utterly crazy it is that in 2022 a company with a significant dataset of private and public communications, that has municipalities, companies and governments on the platform, can switch ownership with pretty much zero scrutiny

Twitter should convert to a platform coop owned and democratically governed by Twitter workers and users, before Musk can fuck it up.
