plug Pinecone directly into Postgres with pg_pinecone, @joerg_schad goes into detail of how it works
Why does filtered vector search break HNSW? And how do you keep an index small enough to share memory with Postgres?
Jörg Schad takes us under the hood of pg_pinecone, our open-source Postgres extension. Watch now: youtu.be/uU6TEeaIh3o
Pinecone costumes:

you can now have Pinecone in Postgres, open source
just install pg_pinecone for faster localized search, synchronize it remotely to unlock scale

Meet pg_pinecone: a new open-source Postgres extension built on the search engine Pinecone runs at scale. A smaller index, faster builds, filters during search. You get the same SQL you're used to and search runs inside your Postgres database.

Here at Pinecone, we pioneered the vector database, but vectors are just an implementation detail. Nobody searches for just a vector.
What matters is what those vectors describe. @sasmith9t wrote about our API journey to abstract that detail away

Your search stack shouldn't need its own embedding pipeline. Send plain text to the Pinecone Documents API, and one field serves both semantic and full-text search. Pinecone embeds your documents and queries with the same model.

instead of there being a correct definitive way, think of it like regular conversation
sometimes it's worth being direct, sometimes it's worth floating around and having fun. I'd hate if all my in-person conversations were hyper efficient and direct. what's the fun in that
