This is one of those books that represents a major moment in pop culture history. DC Comics Presents #47, released in 1982, brought Superman to Eternia and marked the first appearance of He Man, Skeletor and the Masters of the Universe in a standard DC comic. Here’s something many collectors may not know. This story helped establish Prince Adam as He Man’s secret identity before the famous animated series debuted in 1983. This early version of Prince Adam wore a blue vest, and his transformation took place inside the Cavern of Power instead of raising his sword and saying the legendary phrase most of us remember. The issue was written by Paul Kupperberg, penciled by legendary Superman artist Curt Swan, inked by Mike DeCarlo and featured a cover by Ross Andru and Frank Giacoia. This beautiful CGC Signature Series copy was signed by Mike DeCarlo and looks incredible protected in a black KEYGUARD. Recent pickup and easily one of the most beautiful Absolute Batman covers I’ve added to the collection. The amount of detail in this artwork is unreal. Batman sitting at the center surrounded by those terrifying creatures, the deep reds and blacks, and the flashes of white and gold make the entire cover feel alive. The longer you look at it, the more you notice. It’s also a CGC 9.8 Signature Series, signed by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, and Rachta Lin. An incredible cover, incredible signatures, and one seriously beautiful book. This is exactly why I love collecting comics. Some covers are not just covers. This one is absolutely insane. DC All In Special 1 is the book that officially launched DC’s Absolute Universe and gave readers their first look at Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman. This copy is the John Giang variant, graded CGC Signature Series 9.8 with white pages, then signed and sketched by Jorge Jiménez. The silver Batman remark across the front takes an already aggressive cover and turns it into a true one of a kind display piece. This is one of the rarest foreign Spider Man books I’ve ever owned. Published in India by Diamond Comics in 1994, this Bengali edition presents the origin and first appearance of Spider Man from Amazing Fantasy 15. Even though collectors recognize it as a foreign Amazing Fantasy 15, the Bengali cover actually presents it as Spider Man 1. This copy is identified by CGC as the Bengali fourth edition and traces its story back through the 1984 Allied edition of Marvel Tales 1. It also still displays its original Indian cover price of 10 rupees. Foreign editions like this were printed for local readers, not the American collecting market. Many were read heavily, discarded, or damaged by time and climate, which makes surviving graded copies incredibly difficult to find. It is honestly sad to see this one go, but I officially sold it. Nice Absolute Batman 1 mail day. Disregard the hospital band on my wrist. I’ve been in and out of the emergency room twice this week dealing with exhaustion and anxiety. Working 20 hour days for 10 months straight will eventually catch up with you. Building a startup mostly by yourself is not easy. Luckily, I’m starting to find a rhythm and getting some help on the painting side. I have an interview with an administrative assistant on Friday and I’m also talking with a potential investor for KEYGUARD. I truly feel like a breakthrough is coming soon.
