Pakistan's Kashmir Cause: Sharif Reclaims What Khan Compromised
My latest in The Friday Times
Kashmir cannot survive on solidarity diplomacy, just as Pakistan's water rights cannot be protected by warnings alone. Both require international law, diplomatic persistence and the systematic mobilisation of Pakistan's partnerships abroad. On September 22, @CSSPR_UOL
hosted a timely roundtable entitled " Alliances, Autonomy, and Mediation: Pakistan in the Emerging Regional Security Order." Moderated by @Rabs_AA and featuring Amb.Zamir Akram, @khalidbanuri , @smalik480 , @AirCommodoreR , and Amb. Raza Bashir Tarar, the roundtable focused on discussing various aspects of the Makkah Defence Alliance. These included the meanings and forms of involvement, not least in Yemen, the Article 5-like clause, strategic autonomy, and deterrence.
The speakers explained the difference between automicity and the demonstration of resolve while also touching upon issues like those related to political economy. They also stressed the need for proactively setting and controlling the narrative on the Alliance.

As world leaders gather at #UNGA81, the test is not the strength of speeches but the willingness to prevent escalation, sustain dialogue, and restore trust in multilateral diplomacy. In today’s world, with wars in #Ukraine and #MiddleEast keeping channels open is not weakness, it is strategic necessity.
