And lovely to see it in print!
Thrilled to have my essay on the death of tonality, modernist art, German idealism, and the continuing temptations of historicism in the summer issue of @ReadLiberties. Featuring Schoenberg, Hegel, Liszt, Kandinsky, and Spengler!

The average philosophy paper is titled "On the Very Idea of Quibbling over Qualia", begins with a whimsical anecdote about Wendy's aquamarine teapot, and then launches into 173 lines of formal logic.
Raymond Geuss' surname must have the highest possible-interpretations-of-pronunciation-to-word-size ratio of all time.
Sorry I'm late — I stumbled upon a previously undiscovered species of speaking mice who wanted to show me round their kingdom.
Today is the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski's birthday. I wrote about him earlier this year for @PorticoQtrly.

"Help teach robots. Win a £25 Amazon voucher." Very much the kind of poster you'd find on a billboard in an abandoned university in a dystopian computer game in which your mission is to figure out how society collapsed.
Struggling to contain my excitement about the new digital billboard "Coming Soon!" at Fulham Broadway station. I always felt that this corner gave me too much time to think about my own thoughts.
Out of genuine interest, what are some good recent examples of "technology-driven efficiencies" actually freeing us up to live better/more meaningful/happier lives? Where have useful "savings" genuinely been made?
My talk at the Out of Print literacy symposium in June
What if the problem of literacy is not its decline, but rather our hyper-literate state? The written word has become a bulwark against experience, with the reading of social media posts or Substack essays is at best a distraction.
In this, the third part of "Out of Print" — Verdurin's symposium on literacy held in June 2026 and organised with Edmund King — Kit Wilson explores the confusion of the ‘map’ with the ‘territory’ that occludes access to an understanding of things outside of language itself.

There's only one place in London where you feel like you're in a genuinely global-tier city, and that's Hampstead Heath.

A superb essay about Leszek Kołakowski from the great and powerful @kitwilsonwriter. I'd forgotten Kołakowski was born in Radom. That alone should have elevated its reputation.
