‘Force, hatred, history, all that. That’s not life for men and women, insult and hatred. And everybody knows that it’s the very opposite of that that is really life.
— What? says Alf.
— Love, says Bloom.’
Words for Bloomsday, and every day.
One of the nicest men in the world, a superb and supportive colleague, an inspiration and always the soul of courtesy, even when discussing rival allegiances 😊
On the eve of his retirement, we chatted with John O’Sullivan to discuss his fascinating 43-years-long #career at the @NLIreland.

Fascinating lecture here in our reading room @NLIreland by @RMcGreevy1301 as part of our series of evening events this autumn, made possible by funding from Minister @cathmartingreen and @DeptCulturelRL in support of the Night Time Economy initiative.
It was such a pleasure to be involved with these astonishing films of Seamus Heaney’s poems, and wonderful to work with @loreleijharris and @eugenedownes and the fabulous team @bigO_agency . Thanks as always and for everything to @seamusheaneyest. Three more poems to follow!
The Department of Foreign Affairs 🇮🇪 is proud to partner with @NLIreland and @seamusheaneyest on Postcards from Heaney Country - short films of four poems by Seamus Heaney ☘️, launched today. Take a moment to enjoy one of his most beautiful works...
We are delighted to be open to visitors in the evenings, and very grateful to Minister @cathmartingreen and @DeptCulturelRL for funding to support the Night Time Economy initiative. Looking forward to hosting our first event tonight - a tour of our lovely building at 7pm!
We are delighted to announce our new #evening #events programme, including free tours, talks, and performances, with most taking place in our iconic Reading Room. We are grateful to @DeptCulturelRL for their #NightTimeEconomy initiative which supports our autumn-winter programme.
