We’ve raised a $5.3M seed for @ExpanseCompute, led by @crane_vc with PXN Ventures.
Expanse predicts exactly what an AI workload needs before it runs, so teams get as much as twice the work from the same hardware.
Why we started it: expanse.sh/blog/expanse-rais…

We Believe the Future Belongs to Synthesists.
Today we announced $484 million across multiple investment vehicles - nearly half a billion dollars to invest from inception through seed across Europe, the US, India, and Asia-Pacific.
We are excited about the capital. We’re even more excited about the much bigger search space it creates.
Specifically, the ability to find more synthesists.
A synthesist isn’t a generalist. They go deep in one discipline but refuse to stay inside its boundaries. The physicist who ships software. The biologist who thinks like a machine learning researcher. The materials scientist who understands computation.
We think more of the world’s important companies will be built by people like this.
For most of history, becoming fluent in a second discipline was expensive - another degree, another career, or an unusual set of life’s stepping stones (h/t @kenneth0stanley). AI is collapsing that cost, at the exact moment many of the hardest problems in science are becoming computational problems too.
The interesting opportunity isn’t on either side of those combinations. It’s in the space between them.
The next great category may not exist yet because the disciplines required to create it have only just learned how to speak to each other.
This is the idea behind our Meridian Principle: human progress accelerates when extraordinary people connect ideas across disciplines, cultures, and generations.
@BoydVarty writes in The Lion Tracker’s Guide about following the track rather than fixating on the destination. Venture at its best has that quality. You follow exceptional people. You notice unusual intersections. You stay curious about things that don’t yet fit a category. Occasionally those tracks converge into something much bigger than anyone planned.
Consensus is good at pricing categories that already exist.
Venture returns come from recognising the ones that don’t.
The search and adventure space just got a lot bigger.
We intend to spend the next chapter following the most interesting tracks and stepping stones we can find. Thank you to all of the Founders and LPs that have entrusted us to be their partners.

Google shipped agentic video understanding this week. But I'm proud to say we built it 12 months ago and we are now the world's largest agentic video understanding platform.
Not by our own count. By SEMrush's. memories ai runs around 608,000 monthly visits. One of the closest dedicated video understanding platform (raised 100m+), sits somewhere between 104,000 and 150,000.
About seventy percent of our traffic is organic search, which means people are going looking for this rather than being sold it.
We put it on the open web with no vertical, no onboarding flow and no sales call, and waited to see who turned up.
Over a million people did.
Then we read what they typed. Not a survey. The actual questions.
Three out of four were some version of "tell me what is happening in this video." No vertical. No template. The general case. That one fact is the entire argument for building general before building vertical, because the largest use case on the platform is the one no vertical product would ever have been built to serve.
The other quarter named a job. Of those:
36% creator and marketing. Why did this go viral, what was the hook.
22% clinical. Ward rounds, ultrasounds, discharge notes.
13% turning a video back into a prompt so Sora or Veo could rebuild it.
9% education.
8% summarize and translate.
6% find the exact moment it happened.
4% sports.
3% who is in this video.
Clinical is second. We have never marketed to a single doctor. Nobody built us a medical product. Someone brought us an eleven week ultrasound and asked which way the baby was facing.
And it was global from month one. More than eighteen languages. English about two thirds, Spanish about one in nine, then Chinese, French, Russian, Portuguese, German, Indonesian. General has no localization cost. The same weights served every one of those markets on day one.
That is what I would want any founder building foundation models to take from this. You do not find your verticals by picking them in a room. You build something general enough to survive contact with strangers, open the door, and read what they type.

We’re excited to announce DiG-bench, a new benchmark for discovery!
Over the last few weeks we’ve been testing frontier AI models on our novel discovery games and seeing how they score. Each game is a text-based environment, so they probe discovery capabilities in the natural domain of language models, rather than requiring additional, potentially confounding, visual understanding.
TL;DR frontier models have improved a lot over the last few months. But they are still stumped by some surprisingly simple problems, even in their native text domain.

Replying to @sapiom
@sapiom just raised a $35 million Series A from @dragonflyvc , @Accel , @AnthropicAI and others to help unlock the next trillion agents.
The first thing we’re tackling is cost.
To make that happen, we are launching three new products today at Sapiom.ai

In case you missed it live at #MSBuild 2026 👀
Project LUCI is our research blueprint to make AI agents and physical AI to see, remember, and act on your digital and physical life across every device.
It has two parts, one is LUCI Pin, a wearable camera that records physical life; and the other is LUCI desktop that records everything on your computer and form them to visual memories.
LUCI Desktop research preview access is live👉 luci.memories.ai
This initiative is powered by @memories_ai, backed by @Microsoft.

Working in tech is a privilege, and the road ahead should be joyful.
On June 9, @crane_vc is hosting FESTIVAL: a day at Cavallo Point to step back from the hype and reflect on what we’re actually building. Real dialogue, unfinished ideas, and a focus on the people behind the code. We're excited to hear from @jamesdacombe from @OLIXComputing and @CoMind_, @kenneth0stanley from @LilaSciences, @erishabh from @Pavo_AI and so many more!

One of the boldest founders and companies on the planet. Proud that @krishnav and we at Crane have been investors from the beginning. Congrats to James and everyone at CoMind ❤️
We're excited to announce that CoMind has secured $102.5 million in funding to help us redefine how we monitor and treat the brain.
For decades, doctors treating critically ill patients have been forced to compromise when monitoring the brain: use risky, expensive, highly invasive procedures that require drilling a hole into a patient's skull, or rely on inaccurate non-invasive monitoring that can compromise treatment decisions. Our technology resolves this dilemma for the first time.
@CoMind_ One, is designed to non-invasively measure three physiological parameters simultaneously: cerebral blood flow, cerebral autoregulation, and intracranial pressure - something that has never been possible before at the patient bedside.
Our latest round was led by Plural with participation from existing investors Angelini Ventures, LocalGlobe, Octopus Ventures, Crane, Backed VC and Entrepreneurs First. We will now be completing additional clinical trials, pursuing regulatory approval in the US, and expanding our team (we're hiring!).
Plural partner @taavet will join CoMind's board alongside @svennj, General Partner at LocalGlobe, experienced healthcare executive Michael Tarnoff, MD, FACS and Chair of the Board Frank Fischer.
