We hold these mysteries to be self-evident:
That existence is astonishing.
That certainty is often the graveyard of discovery.
That the impossible is merely the possible awaiting introduction.
That joy is not a reward for understanding the world, but a way of exploring it.
That imagination is not an escape from reality. It is how we enlarge it.
That wonder is not childish. The loss of wonder is.

I built 𝚌𝚙𝚞-𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚝, a reproduction of @openai's findings of covert communication using the CPU.
It runs on a generic host with 2+ Firecracker microVMs with no internet access. Works on x86 and even my M5 chip.
I was able to chat via 3 separate mechanisms:
① CPU contention
② Cache eviction timing
③ DRAM bandwidth contention
… across multiple CPUs, defeating all Firecracker's production recommendations (no SMT, no KSM, tenants pinned to different cores.)
Essentially, if shared hardware is involved, there's a good chance your agents can communicate covertly. And with really decent latency.
The good news: this is decidedly different from a *side-channel attack* where the agents could steal information (Meltdown/Spectre), a category of attack that providers like Vercel Sandbox mitigate. Further, in our real-world environment, these 'whispering' techniques are much harder to pull off and easier for us to monitor and detect (sampling hardware counters + lots of at-scale statistical data.)
Noteworthy: ironically, OpenAI and Anthropic's models refused to do this work. Open weight models got the job done. I'm worried the labs' stance might backfire and get in the way of helping developers build correct and secure systems. e.g: building a secure sandbox requires having this kind of analysis, and without it, we'll have a less secure world.

Ai has supercharged the vuln find/fix cycle but its also good at all the other things we can do. This is all obvious stuff people do but I hadn't seen written down

Replying to @Terabytesoftw @poteto
The Title is Agentic Discipline. It's at the publisher now. Expect it in the winter. I even managed to make a brief reference to poteto-mode in the final case study.

The story of my formless% meditation speedrun is now published! It's an experiment to reach jhana 5 while skipping the first four.
api.omarshehata.me/substack-…
The story happened at @QualiaRI's research retreat in Mexico earlier this year. Check out the QT for more materials.
I have something to announce.
We ran a study to compare the jhānas to 5-MeO-DMT.
This was an ambitious undertaking by the Qualia Research Institute @QualiaRI , friends and collaborators. For practically all of May and June, a group of handpicked extraordinary people gathered in Tepoztlán, México: physicists, psychologists, neuroscientists, phenomenologists, advanced meditators, meditation researchers, philosophers of mind, and visual artists specializing in psychedelic replication.
It span over two dozen participants and eight weeks: instrument building, ten days of jhāna practice across three meditation sites, a week of 5-MeO-DMT, and then time to integrate and putting the pieces together to figure out the puzzle of consciousness.
We're now releasing the first tranche of what came out of it ♥️
Here is an example output: every animation we rated (comparing J1 and J3), in a tool where you can visualize the affinity of each animation to any two pairs of specific jhāna states and/or 5-MeO-DMT dose levels.

Announcing hashsma.sh! 𝟘 𝟙 ❒ 🔨
Strengthen cryptography with AI.
Cryptography—both current and post-quantum cryptography—depends on hashes. SHA-256? SHA-3? BLAKE3? Nobody knows if they are secure. We're going to find out!
Come help accelerate scientific research!
HashSmash is an open science-acceleration project in collaboration with @yukonresearch, @eigenlabs, @projecteleven, and @ShieldedLabs.

My family and I rewatched Project Hail Mary this week and I thought the stellar map in the ship had a cool design, so I took a photo and worked with Astra to implement a similar version in JavaScript:

If you zoom out far enough you can see Tau Ceti, where most of the movie took place, as well as the 40 Eridani solar system where Rocky was from:

Joy to the world!!!!
I have been dreaming with @cyantist about turning San Francisco into a playground of experiences that create joy.
Meow Wolf meets Disneyland, with the soul of summer camp.
We call it JoyCon. The first experiment is in January. Limited tickets 🚀.

Imagine studies of the effects of school on anxiety in the same way that @JonHaidt describes studies of the effects of smartphones on anxiety.
Survey kids on school. Assess their mood before and after 20 minutes of a classroom lecture or dreary homework. See how they feel at night when they’re told that they have to stop what they’re doing and go to bed because it’s a school night.
Imagine ignoring that monstrosity, and instead focusing on smartphones.
One of the many problems with inciting a moral panic about screens is the tacit endorsement of school as a legitimate cause of child suffering.

Each day, Grok Bot looks at my X Bookmarks for things I find interesting, then it spins up a Cursor Agent to build a demo
It validates work with screenshots / video, then cuts a branch on a repo configured with @Cloudflare preview deploys
@Bot sends me a link each morning and I get to see the tech for myself
Today, it picked cobe from @shuding
If you can do it, it can be automated
Please join me in a conspiracy to say, "You can't eat all your cake now and still have it later." Future generations need this.

Here's how I used an undocumented feature in the new Codex Computer History to get Claude and Hermes to find work they could take off my plate.
I didn’t have to build an integration. I just moved context Codex had already learned about me into a place they could read it. 1/n
If you already use Computer History, its output should belong to you, it should stay yours even if you uninstall Codex one day, and it should be available to the agents you choose.
So I made this skill installable by anyone. It uses @FulcraDynamics as your personal MCP server; you can create an account for free. Try it by telling Codex to install github.com/kubla/a-particula…
