According to World Bank's latest report, India's extreme poverty has fallen from 27.6% to just under 2.6%.
And for Indians living under Rs. 400 a day (lower middle income), it has come down from 57.7% of the population to 16.1%.
Remarkable achievement by India given the rupee depreciated and the inflationary pressure of a fast growing economy.

Just 3.6%
Today China is at 40%
India has already reached 20%

Japanese chipmaker Rapidus was founded in August 2022, and by mid 2025, they had a 2nm process working on a pilot line.
Worried by India’s lack of compute sovereignty, I asked a professor of mine why we couldn’t replicate this effort- he answered with one word - Talent.
Japan has been working with semiconductors since basically the invention of the transistor- consequently they’ve developed individual and organisational knowhow and tacit knowledge on how to build this industry - this looks like individual engineers knowing how to optimise a dose matrix, identify lithographic defects, figure out which step led to a bad IV curve- but also organisations as a whole having the knowhow and discipline on how to make ultrapure chemicals, how to decontaminate a part and how to install and maintain equipment.
To develop the talent you need the ecosystem that can train the knowhow, and to develop the ecosystem you need the talent- this is a chicken and egg problem.
In August 2025, we started @hackerfabindia and have been building open source equipment to fabricate semiconductors. Simultaneously, @itsarnavb and @_lagrangepoint have been working on discovering and nurturing talent all over the country.
Arnav and I sat down a couple of months ago, and brainstormed how we can solve this chicken and egg problem - and Junction is the fruit of that discussion.
We will bring the best and brightest builders from colleges all over the country under one roof, and equip them with funding and mentorship from experts in academia and the industry. The idea is to get the hands-on knowledge, context and confidence by building small projects now- to go on to building big, frontier projects in the industry.
We hope for Junction to spring up many chapters of HackerFab all over the country - centres which will mirror this ethos of learning by building- while being linked to India’s larger semiconductor mission.
If India in 2026 can start building a pipeline producing the best semiconductor talent - it’s exciting to think about where that gets us 10-15 years from now.
The journey from sand to superintelligence is driven by talent, and Junction is where talent comes together. The current in a PN junction diode takes off exponentially once the threshold voltage is crossed -- the journey for India’s Semiconductor Mission to cross its threshold is a challenging one. Join and help us catalyse it!
Launching Junction: come speed-run the semiconductor tech tree this December in Bangalore.
We’re flying in students from all over India 🇮🇳 to a 2-week fabrication retreat at @_lagrangepoint to build equipment, design chips and engineer processes, with our friends at @hackerfabindia.
India still needs thousands of semicon engineers -- the ecosystem to produce them isn’t mature enough yet -- we're changing that.
Current applicants have built vacuum chambers to study plasma physics, RISC-V processors from scratch, scanning tunneling microscopes, et cetera
At junction you will:
1. Propose a project
2. Figure out a plan with the Junction team.
3. Iterate fast towards a working prototype, with help from the Junction team
4. Be mentored by top semiconductor hackers and specialists.
5. Demo to industry leaders, founders, investors, and your fellow craftspeople

DG BSF & all Ranks express heartfelt condolences on the demise of Shri S S Buttar, Commandant(Retd.).
Prahari Parivar stands firm with his family in these trying times.
TIL that the pilot who landed that crippled plane under such stress was a Fijian.
The pilot that landed the plane Captain Steven is from Fiji. In the picture, he is in the middle.
The crew of flydubai Flight 1073 were honored for their “courage and professionalism in ensuring the safety of passengers and securing the aircraft.” At the heart of that story are 3 pilots.
The first is the captain, Smit Machchhar. On September 30, his Boeing 737 was flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv when his own co-pilot turned on him, left him badly injured and pushed the jet into a dive. It plunged 17,000 feet in less than a minute.
“I was in and out of consciousness frequently,” Machchhar said later. But he told himself: “Do something.” He managed to unlock the cockpit door from inside, and passengers rushed in and stopped the co-pilot.
The other 2 were flydubai pilots traveling in the cabin that day. They were only on board to fly the aircraft back to Dubai. Later reporting identified them as South African and New Zealand citizens.
They rushed into the cockpit and took over a crippled jet. The dive had torn away part of the rudder. Passenger Almog Itali said the 2 pilots “entered (the cockpit) and pulled the aircraft up, pulled the yoke, stabilised the plane and landed us in Saudi Arabia.”
They flew it for more than an hour and landed safely in Tabuk. Everyone on board survived. According to Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry, 174 passengers and 8 crew members were on board.
Machchhar was treated in Tabuk, then moved to Abu Dhabi. The 2 pilots who landed the plane have never been publicly named. Flydubai has described them only as crew members traveling on the plane.
A passenger later called the people who saved that flight “angels upon earth.”
Not to minimize the life-saving actions of these pilots, but is it really necessary to completely erase the heroic and quick-thinking actions of the Israeli civilians who rushed the cockpit, neutralized the perp and stabilized the plane? Everybody would have died if they hadn’t stood up like that. We can honor both the pilots and the civilians.
The whole episode is worthy of a Hollywood feature
The bravery of the untrained lsraeli civilians by fighting and subduing the terrorist and then stabilizing the plane is worthy of a new Nobel prize category......valour
One of the passengers, an Israeli (Jewish) plumber who first stabilized the aircraft by pulling up on the yoke in the cockpit and thereby pulling the plane out of it's dive before the two deadhead pilots took over.
There was more to this story than these 3 pilots. 1st on pilot who did everything in his power to stop a terror attack. Than a group of Israeli passengers who raced in, pulled the nose up and obtained the terrorist and one doctor who made sure the pilot kept awake until the 2 deadhead pilots landed. All of these heroes avoided a catastrophic event.
Rowan Tooth, a South African pilot originally from Kimberley, who was later awarded the UAE's First Class Order of Zayed II for his bravery.” was one of the pilots.

I know Sunita is nervous about that little stunt they pulled, that is backfiring now. They’re even hiding the signatories now.
But we have receipts.
The “pledge” specifically linked to the radical left wing handle @thecaravanindia, that lists over a 100 Hindu American organizations as “RSS linked.” Not just “a few families.”
That @AbdulElSayed @RoKhanna @RepJayapal @HamawyForNJ signed the pledge remains a scandal for Hindu American campaign donors.
This is a pure lie. The pledge promises to not take money from the RSS and the movement that killed Gandhi. It involves a few dozen families in America who can be shown using public records to be connected to the RSS through occupying leadership positions or financial ties.

Oh it gets worse if you start counting what happens with military bases around the world.
Earlier this year, it was discovered that British soldiers had been exploiting Kenyan women, who birthed their children, only to be abandoned. This was at the training base there.
Very similar to Cambodia.
I was in Cambodia recently, advising an NGO that rescues girls from traffickers. I walked those streets in Phnom Penh. Bars with little children standing outside, forced to sell themselves. You lose faith in humanity after seeing children held as sex slaves. And old, washed-up men lusting after them. I learned the history of how this started.
In the early 1990s, Cambodia was emerging from two decades of hell. The Khmer Rouge had killed nearly two million people. Civil war followed. The UN sent some 20,000 peacekeepers under UNTAC in 1991 to oversee the transition to democracy. They brought money, power, and demand.
Before UNTAC arrived, Cambodia had about 6,000 sex workers. By 1993, when the mission ended, that number had exploded to over 25,000. The UN’s own reports documented peacekeepers buying sex from women and children. When the head of UNTAC, Yasushi Akashi, was confronted about it, his response became infamous: “Boys will be boys.”
The full quote is worse. “Eighteen-year-old hot-blooded soldiers who come in from the field after working hard should be able to chase after young, beautiful beings of the opposite sex.”
The leadership did not shut it down. They told peacekeepers not to wear uniforms when visiting brothels and not to park UN vehicles directly outside. When an HIV epidemic broke out and increased demand for younger girls on the assumption that they were disease-free, the UN’s response was to ship 800,000 condoms to Cambodia.
When UNTAC left, the infrastructure of exploitation remained. Brothel owners discovered they could make more money catering to foreign tourists and local pedophiles wanting sex with children. Cambodia became known on international pedophile networks as “the new frontier.” By the early 2000s, officials estimated the average age of sex workers in Phnom Penh was 15.
Akashi was never removed. He was promoted. He went on to serve as UN Special Representative in Bosnia. He received Sri Lanka’s highest national honor for foreign nationals.
Thirty years later, the boys are gone. Now it is all old men. The children are still there.
So long as they are psychologically going to stay in the "good old Brit Raj days"... nothing will improve for the state, the only part which derived great benefit under Brit colonial rule. The NW part of the subcontinent needs to be Hinduized.
