I鈥檝e been saying this for a long time: The people who learn a language with near-native pronunciation are the ones who closely identify with the culture of its speakers, to the point where they feel like they are part of the in group. If you feel like part of the out group, it almost feels like you have no business speaking with too authentic of an accent.
In order to properly speak a foreign language you sort of have to do an impression of a native speaker. The reason why most anglos are so bad at languages is because they are too self-conscious to effectively do this

Are the Balto-Slavic languages really a thing? It's the widely held consensus that the Baltic languages and the Slavic languages have a shared Proto language, and together form a branch of the Indo-European language family. This has become more widely accepted in recent decades, though some people still deny or doubt it.
