Here's how the DeSantis proposed Florida congressional map (left) would split Tampa to avoid a blue seat in Tampa Bay.
East Tampa/Ybor joins Citrus County.
Downtown Tampa joins Pasco.
South Tampa joins deep suburbs.
St. Pete would split north/south.

Rebecca used to be my boss, and I can say with authority she’s one of the most diligent, careful and ambitious editors in the game.
She’s also one of the most empathetic, patient and protective managers.
It takes a lot for me to say this about a Yankees fan.
Some personal news: After less than three months @washingtonpost, I was among those laid off today. Devastated for all my colleagues who were affected. Thank you to those who have reached out. I appreciate you so much. Please keep me in mind for any openings ❤️

Congratulations to @mahoneysthename and @langstonitaylor on winning this month's @SidneyHillman Award for their investigation into a state road contractor that hired undocumented workers and put them at risk. Read it here: tampabay.com/investigations/…
The November Sidney Award goes to @mahoneysthename and @langstonitaylor of the @TB_Times for exposing the appalling safety record of a major road contractor which the State of Florida uses despite its record and a pattern of hiring undocumented labor. hillmanfoundation.org/sidney…
Compare the coastal storm surge areas from Helene (left) and Milton (right). Crazy difference depending on track.
Wild to say but Tampa Bay was truly lucky at the last moment during Milton -- and then was still wrecked by historic rainfall and wind.
The Tropical Cyclone Report for Hurricane #Milton (October 5-10, 2024) has been posted on the NHC website. Milton was one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, reaching category 5 intensity with a minimum pressure below 900 mb. Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a category 3 hurricane, causing major damage in the Sarasota and Tampa Bay areas. Milton was responsible for 15 direct deaths--12 in Florida and 3 in Mexico.

If there’s any single person whose absence really could have contributed to the general in-the-mudness of nba coverage this year, it’s Zach Lowe. I think vibes could noticeably improve with him back.
love this for UNC, a small public college on a hill getting a chance to prove itself among the big city schools
it’s great day when an overlooked academics-first college finally gets a seat at the table nitter.cf/NicoleAuerbach/status/…
One target of Trump admin’s mass firing spree:
After Hurricane Ian, Congress allocated $67k/y for this scientist, who quit being a professor to install sensors on beaches for hurricane prediction data. Was working on Madeira Beach hours before Helene. by @MaxChesnes @TB_Times
Trump wants to cut 80% of the workforce that manages a type of aid to rebuild after disasters -- Tampa Bay govts are expecting $2.2 billion from them to rebuild sewage systems (that failed and flooded people) and are now worried about being able to use it:
