I've talked a lot about Flávio Bolsonaro, the failed Brazilian candidate who fled to Miami this week and declared himself President of Brazil, because, for some reason, THAT'S a thing. We haven't talked much about his older brother, Eduardo, who is currently a resident of Houston, TX and who many thought was their father's real preferred candidate. A little background: Eduardo Bolsonaro is a Brazilian politician, lawyer, and former federal police officer who served as a Federal Deputy for the state of São Paulo. The third son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, he is a prominent conservative figure in Brazilian politics known for advocating right-wing policies and maintaining close ties with conservative political movements internationally. In June 2026, the Supreme Court of Brazil unanimously convicted Eduardo Bolsonaro of coercion during a judicial proceeding. The court sentenced him to four years and two months in prison after prosecutors proved he used his political platform to lobby foreign officials - including members of the Trump administration - to enact sanctions and tariffs on Brazilian officials in an attempt to halt the prosecution of his father, Jair Bolsonaro. Because Eduardo Bolsonaro has been living in the United States, he was sentenced in absentia, leading Brazilian authorities to declare him at-large, issue an arrest warrant, and request an Interpol notice for his arrest. So, when people are saying #DeportTheBolsonaros, they are talking about more than Flávio. To reiterate, the United States should not be harboring fugitives who have done real harm to their home countries. The Bolsonaro brothers should be returned to Brazil to face justice.

All these MAGA idiots don't seem to have gotten the news: Bolsonaro's own party accepts the election results.

Reading posts by foreigners about Brazil, I get the impression that you're not aware of the full extent of the accusations against Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, or of the available evidence of his corruption. So I'd like to kindly invite you to really get to know Flávio. A thread 🧵🇧🇷

The Western media is already trying to rewrite the story of Lula’s victory. They want you to believe it was a triumph of broad democratic coalitions and institutional resilience. But the material reality on the ground tells a completely different story. Three weeks before the election, Lula was trailing in the polls. The algorithms were rigged against him. The cosmopolitan bourgeoisie that backed him in 2022 had abandoned him. So Lula stopped talking about abstract democracy and started talking about survival. He promised to cut the workweek from 44 to 40 hours. He targeted the crushing cost of public transport. He expanded the social wage. He stopped preaching to the liberal elites and started speaking directly to the factory floor and the favelas. And when the far-right took a two-point lead after the first round, the working class did what the working class always does when the system tries to erase them. They took the streets. The mobilizations on Avenida Paulista and across Brazil were the largest spontaneous left-wing uprisings in the country's history. This was not a campaign managed by political consultants. It was an organic explosion of the popular classes physically dragging their candidate across the finish line. This changes the entire calculus of Lula's fourth term. In 2022, he owed his victory to a broad coalition of elites who just wanted stability. In 2026, he owes his survival entirely to the streets. The empire threw tariffs, censorship, and disinformation at him, thinking the working class was too atomized to fight back. They forgot that when you push a population to the brink, they do not just vote. They mobilize. Lula does not owe this mandate to the algorithms, the media, or the bourgeoisie. He owes it to the workers who built the country. And the streets always collect their debts.

Michelle Bolsonaro: elected to Senate. Flavio's brother Carlos (L): elected to Senate. Bolsonaro's Liberal Party won 121 seats in Congress. Crooked Lava Jato investigation judge Sergio Moro was elected gov. of Parana. Where's this supposed "dictatorship" Glenn is whining about?

Glenn, I'm South African, and I went to a Samba last night, sorry! Can you please retract your disinformation against me? As for Janones, my views on him were probably more impacted by the fact that he didn't have Bebbiano's cellphone than the Rachadina

One of the few American journalists talking a lot about Brazil who actually knows and understands Brazil is @BenjaminFogel of Jacobin. The other day, he praised Janones and I tried to raise this issue with him and asked if he was bothered. by any of it. He stopped replying:

🚨 ATTENTION! People are mistranslating what I said! I NEVER said people should block far-right accounts. I said they should IGNORE THEIR POSTS! Blocking actually works against this strategy because the algorithm will understand that you didn’t see the content simply because you blocked the account. However, when a post appears in your feed and you ignore it, you don’t read it, don’t like it, don’t comment on it, or engage with it in any way , the algorithm will interpret that content as irrelevant because it was shown to you and you chose not to engage with it! THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BLOCKING CONTENT AND IGNORING IT!

Losing an election is not grounds for asylum. Yet the Trump Administration is giving Flávio Bolsonaro safe haven in the United States. In Brazil, he is under investigation for alleged corruption, money laundering and currency evasion, and was ordered to surrender his passports. The Trump Administration owes Congress answers on its role helping Bolsonaro flee Brazil in contravention of Brazilian law. apnews.com/article/brazil-fl…

Glenn, your late husband, David Miranda, thought otherwise. This is what he wrote about me for TIME magazine when I was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2020: time.com/collections/100-mos… But here’s the thing, Glenn: unlike you, I don’t need to desperately cling to a reputation or pretend to be some great intellectual. I’m a clown. An entertainer. A joke. And I’m perfectly fine with that. The difference between us? I make a living playing the clown. You’ve become one without even realizing it.
