Itโs hard to underscore how important this news is to the future of American industrial capital.

the white house just declared our dependence on imported robots and industrial machinery a national security threat.
no new tariffs yet. trade negotiations come first.
the bigger point: rebuilding american industry means building the machines that make everything else.

Robotics is now a Section 232 national-security issue.
The hand is where the US dependence is deepest: almost every dexterous robot hand shipping today is made in China.
We've been building ours in Mountain View for two years. Shipping now.

After a decade of investing, I've been writing down a few notes for my team. I've no idea if there is broader interest in this stuff. Nor if it's particularly useful. But posting for those who have an interest in venture and appreciate perspectives on it.

YC S26 Salem Robotics just launched software for robots plants already own.
Nuclear smear surveys and valve leak checks need the probe kept normal to a surface, not a waypoint.
They plan those constrained motions from live geometry, then check the measurement actually worked.
The best time to use @thewebAI @ForgeprivateAI is today. On prem with your data alone and on your devices you can have airgapped sovereign AI. Being deployed today in the most high stakes enterprises like banking and health.

Feels like March 1, 2020 for Cyber. Not normal, something is happening. Internet lockdowns in a couple of months?

Regarding potential attacks on energy, food, and water infrastructure, the threat is quite real. Someone is currently probing infra and feeling it out, it is an active threat. Even a little preparation can be helpful, just in case. This comes from the joint cybersecurity advisory released by the NSA and partner agencies on August 19:
'The threat actors are conducting reconnaissance and capability development against U.S.-based Siemens PLC installations using Al-generated exploitation scripts disguised as legitimate monitoring tools. The actors leverage Internet scanning services to find Internet-exposed PLCs running outdated software or that are otherwise poorly protected. The U.S. critical infrastructure sectors most targeted by this threat activity include Critical Manufacturing, Energy, Water and Wastewater, Chemical, Food and Agriculture, and Commercial Facilities. This is not a theoretical risk - it is an active threat. Depending on the specific circumstances, exploitation of poorly protected PLCS could lead to disruption of critical industrial processes, safety incidents, downtime or equipment damage, compromise of sensitive data, compliance violations, and cascading impacts across interconnected systems.'
'Using Al to generate exploitation scripts represents an evolution in threat actor capabilities, dramatically reducing the technical expertise and time required to develop working ICS exploitation scripts and malicious tools. In addition, Al enables adversaries to rapidly leverage additional attack vectors and adapt to defensive measures. Threat actors can easily collect public information about vulnerabilities and weaknesses, find exposed and exploitable PLCs, and use Al-generated scripts to act on that information. If PLCs are exposed to the Internet, they are at high risk for exploitation.
Threat actors are leveraging open source industrial automation libraries - specifically snap7.d11/python-snap7 - combined with Al-assisted scripting to create custom tools that mimic legitimate OT monitoring solutions. These tools provide read/write access to Siemens S7 Series PLC memory, configuration data, and ladder logic programs via the S7comm protocol.'
It seems like we're in a pretty hot moment cybersecurity wise ๐ฌ If you're reading this website, you probably know more than most of the people in your life about what's happening! they're not talking about any of this stuff on the news, it's too arcane and weird and sudden. It is on us.
Good time to call or text your family and friends, have some cash on hand, have a meetup point in your neighborhood for if the Internet goes down entirely, etc.
The full prepper mode for shit hitting the fan is probably something like what Andreas posted here but you can get 80% of the way with 20% of the effort. Think about what that would mean for you in your situation, and the people you care about, and talk to them about it sooner than later.
And as always, the most important part of prepping is having a strong support network and caring for each other. "Going off grid" isn't the move, it just makes you isolated and you have to do everything yourself. We are social animals. Community is our superpower ๐ซก๐ซก๐ซก

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

Neuralink president DJ Seo says Elonโs aggressive schedules are rigorous first-principles engineering, and an all-green-light schedule shows 80 to 90% of delays are just assumed
โWhat Iโve learned is that itโs not really some arbitrary management tactics, but itโs really used as a rigorous engineering and first principle, you know. Again, this is more applicable in the world of atoms, but we have this concept called all green light schedule, which is kind of forcing us to think about if every single light is green, thereโs no administrative burdens or delays or no shipping delays or risk or no legacy bottlenecks, how fast can you build it?โ
โAnd when you think from that point of view and vantage point and literally strip away any man-made bottlenecks and you ask a question of how fast can you actually manufacture a chip, how fast can you design a robot and test it. It turns out like, I donโt know what the right number is, but at least 80-90% of it is things that you think are the way it is, just because you donโt really think about it from that perspective.โ
Elon Musk says he sets the most aggressive deadline with a 50% probability of being achieved, knowing it will be late half the time, because a five-year schedule just expands to fill five years
โIโm constantly addressing the limiting factor. So, I mean, on the deadlines front, I generally actually try to aim for a deadline that I at least think is at the 50th percentile."
"So itโs not like an impossible deadline, but itโs the most aggressive deadline I can think of that could be achieved with 50% probability, which means that itโll be late half the time."
"There is like a law of gases expansion that applies to schedules. Like, if you said weโre going to do something in like five years, which to me is like infinity time, it will expand to fully available schedule and itโll take five years.โ

Elon is the motherfuckinโ GOAT.
He takes things most people only dream about and makes them fucking real. Thatโs just the damn truth.
I went to see a car unveil and watched a Roadster drive upside down, launch with thrusters, and do flips and rolls through the air.
How do you watch that and not feel like a kid again?!
Tonight was the best product unveil Iโve ever seen, literally the best unveil of ANY product.
Hands down.
Huge respect to Elon and everyone at Tesla and SpaceX who put in the work to make this happen. You absolutely fucking delivered.
I had my @Grok Bot pull the official stream, find the best moments, and cut this video together by the end of the night.
I had to watch it again to understand how unbelievable today was.
