Dementia is the biggest health crisis of our time and affects not only those living with it, but also their loved ones and carers.
Our Lived Experience Survey captures the voices of people affected by dementia, made up of those living with the condition, unpaid carers, and loved ones.
The findings expose a system buckling under pressure and serious gaps in care, diagnosis, and public awareness β leaving too many families to cope alone.
What has been your experience of dementia?

Seven out of ten carers for people with dementia say that caring has negatively impacted their lives. It has impacted on their mental health and made them feel more socially isolated.
Caring for someone with dementia is rewarding, but it can also be mentally exhausting and carers can forget about themselves.
Members of our community shared their experiences of caring for loved ones with dementia:
βLife revolves around them seven days a week. Our lives our put on holdβ
βIt destroyed my life. I am now invisible and exhaustedβ
βI feel like Iβve traded my own quality of life to give them theirsβ
βIt changes your life, not just during but after your care journey. It takes such a toll on youβ
βItβs completely changed my life. Iβm so worried. I keep burying my head in the sand about the futureβ
This World Alzheimerβs Month weβre giving voices to those affected by dementia, highlight the significant challenges currently overwhelming people living with dementia and their loved ones.
