My daddy was born in 1940. My mama 1950. They said prior to Social Security, older people used to commit suicide or literally live on the street if they couldnt work til the day they died. SSI was designed honestly as a public health measure in my eyes.

Do y'all understand how many HIGHLY educated Black Americans pre-1965 had degrees & were still subjected to working as janitors, elevator operators, postal workers, maids/nannys, & pullman porters due to educational segregation?
New Yorkers ages 25โ55 will be able to earn a college degree for free starting in January 2027.
Governor Kathy Hochul is expanding the Reconnect program to include adults who already have a degree in a different field. It covers eligible associate degree programs at SUNY and CUNY community colleges in fields such as healthcare, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing. Tuition, fees, books and supplies are covered to help adults train for new careers.
