The more iPhone Duo hands-on videos I watch, the more I feel that Samsung was just muddling through before Apple arrived. Samsung has been making foldables for years, yet it never seems to have figured out what the experience should actually be like. Everything follows an engineering mindset: the screen folds, the features work, job done. But how much thought has gone into the transition between folded and unfolded, the little details of every interaction, and how it all actually feels to use? Then Apple comes along, and suddenly you realize: a foldable can do this? It can feel like this? Things we had grown used to, and even accepted as inevitable, suddenly turn out to have so much room for improvement. To me, Apple has both redefined the foldable and expanded our understanding of what one can be. That’s the difference between a great product and a mediocre one. Now I look at the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in my hand, and it honestly looks like an idiot. Samsung, please just stick to supplying hardware components. You really aren’t cut out to make software or finished consumer products.
