Long overdue #tweeprint: ✨The generalised hierarchical Gaussian filter✨
Ever wanted to build your own hierarchical Bayesian learning model without deriving/implementing new equations? Ever wondered how the HGF relates to predictive coding?

✨Rethinking reinforcement learning: the interoceptive origins of reward
doi.org/10.31234/osf.io/be6n…
An honour and *absolute delight* bouncing ideas with these brilliant women: @debyeeneuro @danamsmall @rikepetzschner
What are primary reward signals and where do they come from?
We also believe that this will transform our understanding of conditions in which reward processing seems to be affected (mood disorders, addiction, …) – we can now identify the (bodily/interoceptive/psychological) origins of these differences (check out work by @cornu_copiae)
Thanks to the team🥰and the NIMH Interoception Workgroup, Ivan de Araujo, Peter Dayan, @LnccBrown, @cimoore444, @MKFlugge and Stephanie Fulton for helpful discussions.
We are excited to share this work and would love to hear and incorporate your feedback!

Back in 2022, @roxana_zeraati & I organized a Cosyne workshop on neural timescales, and after working on it for the last 2 years together, it's now a review paper!

(2nd blogpost to turn into a real review paper this year lol)

Thank you Dr. Miriam Klein-Flügge for sharing her fascinating research into transcranial ultrasound stimulation of the human amygdala in emotion and decision making!
Up next, Soha Farboud with insights into ultrasonic stimulation 🧠

Late to jump onto this, but looks very cool
NEW PREPRINT JUST DROPPED 🥳🚨🎉on a new predictive coding algorithm for your (deep) probabilistic models: DIVIDE & CONQUER PREDICTIVE CODING (DCPC), distilled from the hard work of @Hao_Wu_ and Tomasso Salvatori!
What can it do? Glad you're asking!

How can we train biophysical neuron models on data or tasks? We built Jaxley, a differentiable, GPU-based biophysics simulator, which makes this possible even when models have thousands of parameters! Led by @deismic_, collab with @CellTypist @ppjgoncalves biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
