After 12 long months, I have completed my MA thesis! With much emotional turmoil and 1/4 of this written from my bed due to chronic illness flares, I'm so pleased it's finished. The results make for a sober reading on the state of housing and abuse services in the UK.

She was kept in total isolation— her cell had no windows. There was no air or fan. She recently told her lawyer that in order to breathe even a little, she'd lay down on the floor and try to get a bit of air from the crack under the cell door.
Khalida Jarrar is free & appears to be in a bad condition....

This is not an accurate description of events at all. I was part of a delegation of speakers, who wished to peacefully carry and lay flowers in memory of children in Gaza who had been killed. This was facilitated by the police. We did not force our way through. When we reached Trafalgar Square, we informed police that we would go no further, lay down flowers and disperse. At that point, the Chief Steward, Chris Nineham was arrested. We then turned back and dispersed. I urge the police to release all bodycam footage and retract its misleading account of events.
Replying to @metpoliceuk
The group that forced its way through the police line is now held at the north west corner of Trafalgar Square. Anyone in that group should now disperse and leave the area. Anyone remaining in breach of the conditions, or inciting further breaches, will be arrested.

Remember when people got upset that a tiny number of climate activists were doing minor, easily repairable, damage to a handful of paintings. Will those people now acknowledge that climate change is itself a far bigger threat to the cultural inheritance of humanity?

Celine Haidar, Lebanon national team player, was hit by a shrapnel in her head following an Israeli attack. Over 370 footballers have been killed by Israel since October 2023.
Celine Haidar had just got onto her motorcycle when the shrapnel struck the right side of her head. More than two months on, she is finally out of a coma but she cannot speak or move. The 19-year-old had only recently captained the Beirut Football Academy to the Lebanese league title, the "prodigy" helping her team win every game along the way. Her visions were grand: make the Lebanese national team, perhaps move to the United States, eventually open an academy. But now she is in a critical condition, a high-profile victim of a conflict that has injured more than 16,000 people in Lebanon. @megan_feringa spoke to Celine's family and friends, who say they are "waiting for her to come back to life". 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/6026689…

So in a new twist, the IDF now acknowledges detaining Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyyah, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, insisting he is investigated for links with Hamas. Please join @amnesty in calling for Dr. Hussam to be granted access to a lawyer and his family, and for his release. A few facts on Dr. Hussam Kamal Adwan hospital was raided previously in December 2023, with several medical staff arbitrarily detained and disappeared. Back then, Dr. Hussam was interrogated briefly. At the time, not a single Israeli source accused Dr. Hussam of anything. After the initial raid on Kamal Adwan, which put the hospital out of service, Dr. Hussam and other staff managed, with the support of international organizations, to get the hospital to function again. It played an indispensable role in treating children suffering from malnutrition and dehydration-related issues. The hospital also received those wounded from a series of Israeli attacks on starving people as they waited for flour trucks, known as flour massacres. Between the months of February 2024-September 2024, Dr. Abu Safiya was the go-to source for human rights and humanitarian organizations investigating the situation of the healthcare sector in north Gaza and the impact of the mixture of disease and hunger on children in particular, providing accurate, non-sensationalist and credible information, coordinating with international health organisations , providing media briefings, all whilst obviously working as a dedicated pediatrician. The only time even the Israeli army brought up the Hamas link was following his disappearance last Friday. They told journalists this morning 03/01 that "Hussam Abu Sufaya was apprehended for suspected involvement in terrorist activities, and for holding a rank in the Hamas terror organization, while hundreds of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists were hiding inside the Kamal Adwan Hospital under his management. He is currently being investigated by Israeli security forces." Dr. Abu Safiya’s unlawful detention is emblematic of the broader attacks on the healthcare sector in Gaza and Israel’s attempts to annihilate it. It is part and parcel of Israel's genocidal intent and genocidal acts - meant to inflict conditions of life CALCULATED TO BRING ABOUT DESTRUCTION OF PALESTINIANS. Dr. Abu Safiya has been acting as a leading voice for the healthcare sector in the north of Gaza since October 2024 and refusing to abandon the hospital and his patients. He has stood against Israel's genocidal act and his arrest along with that of 100s of Palestinian medical staff further provides evidence of genocidal intent. None of the medical staff abducted by Israeli forces since November 2023 from Gaza during raids on hospitals and clinics has been charged or put before a trial; those released after enduring unimaginable torture were never charged and did not stand trial. Those still detained remain held without charges or trial under inhumane conditions and at risk of torture.

New year but the demands remain if not amplify. Free Palestine from this barbaric cruelty
The mother, Abeer Abu Yousef from Khan Younis, was denied permission by Israel to accompany her child, a kidney patient, during his medical evacuation from Gaza. Heartbroken, she had to send her other young daughter as a companion instead. Abeer expressed deep sadness for not being able to be by her sick child’s side during this critical time. It's not quite clear why Israel's COGAT keeps rejecting mothers to accompany their sick children, other than for the purpose of intentional separation of families. hussien_khreis (IG)

Landlords like to act as if they’re simply receiving compensation for a service when the reality is that they’re hoarding a basic need and profiting off of functional extortion - giving you an option between paying them or living on the street and pretending they’re benevolent.
"I don't think landlords should profit." So if I own a home, and I allow you to rent it out so that you have a place to stay, I shouldn't profit??? People really don't live in reality.

24 years apart. The picture of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya is sure to become another iconic image of Palestinian resistance. Decades later, the West is still trying to convince you that the ones in the tanks are just acting in “self defense.”
