"I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu)..." On August 25, 1991, a 21-year-old student sent a message to a Usenet newsgroup. He thought he was just building something fun for himself. 35 years later, that "hobby" is the backbone of global technology: 🚀 Powering helicopters in space with NASA ☁️ Running the global cloud and 100% of the world’s supercomputers 📱 Connecting billions of people 🎮 Redefining the future of handheld gaming What started as one student's side project became the greatest collaborative technology movement in history. Thank you to every maintainer, contributor, and advocate who made it possible. Happy 35th Birthday, Linux. Here’s to the power of open source and the next 35 years of building together. learnlinux.ie/content/linus-… #Linux35

What happens when agentgateway goes head-to-head with LiteLLM’s new Rust mode? A benchmark using Fortio and a mock Anthropic backend found agentgateway delivered ~36× higher throughput, ~30× lower latency, and dramatically lower memory usage at maximum throughput. At 900 QPS, P99 latency was 1.45 ms vs. 46.60 ms. See the full benchmark and methodology from AAIF Ambassador @linsun_unc: bit.ly/4wDViKH

My experience working on ate.dev (powering this demo) has been incredible. It truly feels like I’m being given the opportunity to build the future
We spent the last few months building an incredibly fast resumable stateful sandbox layer. We can suspend and resume so fast that you can do it between tool calls without impacting user experience. Each command in the video is resuming and suspending the underlying sandbox.

The July 28 MCP update is a breaking change for every MCP client and server. The move to stateless communication is the right architectural direction, but "upgrade everything at once" is not a realistic production strategy for most teams. @linsun_unc wrote a practical guide to doing this safely using @agentgateway: dark launch the upgraded server with zero production traffic, validate that it handles both legacy and modern clients, canary traffic up gradually, and roll back instantly if anything goes wrong. The client endpoint never changes throughout. The core insight is that protocol upgrades and traffic migrations are separate problems. Modern MCP SDKs already handle both protocol versions. The harder part is controlling when production traffic actually moves, and that is a routing problem, not an application problem. agentgateway turns every rollout decision into a configuration change rather than a redeployment. If you are running MCP servers in production and need a concrete playbook for the July 28 migration, this is a good one to follow. aaif.io/blog/safely-rolling-…

Thrilled to announce the MCP 2026-07-28 release. It is one of MCP's biggest yet, built on 18 months of lessons learned. A few highlights: ★ MCP is now stateless, with semantics for multi-round-trip requests. Serving MCP just got much simpler and more scalable. ★ MCP now has extensions. MCP Apps, Tasks, Enterprise Managed Auth, and more. Domain-specific ways to use MCP, plus room for experimental additions. ★ Python, Typescript, C# (soon) SDKs released a v2.0.0 for the new spec with improved ergonomics! But the biggest highlight for me: this release is a true community effort. Individuals and companies alike — Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and many others helped shape this specification. And there's much more. Full details: blog.modelcontextprotocol.io…

Positioning “open models” as dumping is misinformed & will lead to horrible policy decisions. The marginal cost of software is zero. In real competition, price will and should trend there. “Open” is inevitable, sustainable, & favored by customers. wapo.st/4pvR0mJ

a smarter alternative to "always use plan mode": always frame your task as a question, so that the model is invited to push back and rate the quality of the idea/suggest alternatives, rather than blindly execute what you SAID to do (which is often not precisely what you MEANT) literally just appending "?" to the end of your prompt often does it

Meet Eva Gustavsson, a retired Master System Designer at Ericsson who reminds us that the best builders never stop asking questions. Eva started in hardware but transitioned into software system design out of pure curiosity. Before retiring, she spent five years adapting the Istio service mesh to fit Ericsson’s production environment. Her takeaway for the community? "There is always a corner where you can learn new things. That’s always been my drive."
