The final comics great cartoonists made before they died can be pretty interesting. The legendary George Herriman made this final KRAZY KAT strip just before his death in 1944 and I've never been sure what it means. Maybe right before I die I'll understand it.

Many forget that Marx and Engels lived in the golden era of mostly open borders and largely before visa and passport regimes. People by and large could move anywhere and start a life and essentially live there forever. That extended to even many subjects of colonialism.

Pied Piper variants and adaptations are fascinating. It's such an ambiguous and eerie tale of which there are records in Hamelin. When I was in Romania I met families with German names who believe they are descended from the children the Pied Piper took through the mountain!
