ALT Stained glass window depicting John Bunyan in Bedford jail (he was imprisoned for 12 years for "unlicensed preaching"). Joy Brodier, a British woman who regularly wrote to political prisoners, sent a picture postcard of this window (at the Bunyan Meeting church, Bedford) to Terry Waite, the Archbishop of Canterbury's envoy, who had been abducted in Beirut on 20 January 1987. Terry Waite spent more than four years of his captivity in solitary confinement (then released after 1,763 days, on 18 November 1991). No one but his captors knew Waiteโs whereabouts, so Joy Brodier addressed the card to: Terry Waite, c/o Hezbollah, Party of God, Beirut, Lebanon. And it reached him.
