In 2000 Valencia reached the Champion League final for the first time in the club's history. They stood no chance against a star-studded Real Madrid and lost 3-0. Mauricio Pellegrino was part of that promising Valencia squad.
The next season they got a rematch. Valencia reached the final again and faced Bayern Munich. After 90 minutes and two concerted penalties, the score was 1-1 and the match went into a shootout. Mauricio Pellegrino stepped up for the final penalty but Oliver Kahn saved it and the final was decided.
Valencia had now lost two Champions League finals in a row.
Héctor Cúper left for Inter and Valencia replaced him with Rafa Benítez that summer. Nothing much was expected that season but on 5 May 2002, Valencia secured their first La Liga title in 31 years. Pellegrino got his redemption.
In the 2003-04 season he added a second La Liga title and the UEFA Cup, beating Marseille 2-0 in the final.
Happy 55th birthday, Mauricio Pellegrino.

JUST IN: 🇬🇭🇨🇳 Ghana launches cedi-to-yuan payment system for imports from China, reducing reliance the US dollar.
• Stanbic Bank Ghana is piloting the cedi-to-yuan payment system, with Ghana Commercial Bank developing a similar service.
• Payments are processed through China's Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), enabling direct yuan payments from cedi accounts.
• This system reduces the need for US correspondent banks, cutting costs and processing times for China-related transactions.

😭 mais les Kényans sont tranchants hein, je crois que c’était eux aussi qui avaient appelé les naija abegistan pendant un Twitter war. Ended the discussion completely lmao
Kenyans have had practice protesting and agitating online consistently for 3-4 years. Their knives are well sharpened.
