It was such a pleasure to talk with @clairegiordano on the #talkingpostgres podcast! We discussed many things - my winding path to becoming a software engineer, agentic coding, how improvisational skills help in software tasks, and of course the VS Code extension for PostgreSQL!
🎙️ New Talking Postgres podcast Ep33 is out!
Microsoft engineer @lossyrob joined to discuss building a dev experience for Postgres in VS Code @code + geospatial queries, guitar busking, creativity, & agentic coding

Reading through the Segment Anywhere Model (SAM) paper, some notes & insights as I do so in this Twitter thread. This whole paper is quite incredible actually, very strong work 1/n

Glad to see that these two great organizations are joining forces. I worked at Azavea for many years, have worked with both companies building out the Planetary Computer, and have a huge amount of respect for them both. Can't wait to see the awesome things they will do together!
It's true: @Azavea is joining forces with @Element84. Same commitment to open source and open standards. Same focus on technology for good and advancing the state-of-the-art. Much bigger team of talented folks. I am truly excited about the next chapter of our adventure.

Aaron’s story needs to be told more in the #OpenScience movement.
I was at MIT when he was unjustly prosecuted for downloading paywalled journal articles from the campus network and making them open access. He ended up losing his life over it. 1/
10 years ago today @aaronsw took his own life after overly aggressive prosecution.
He invented internet infrastructure.
He defeated the greatest threat the Internet had ever seen.
And you probably don't know who he is.
You should.
Here’s his story 🧵
Are you a senior level software engineer? Come work at @microsoft and build the Planetary Computer with us! aka.ms/build-the-planetary-c…
Thank you and farewell, Bruno!
Proud to be taking on leadership of this amazing team in collaboration with a strong coalition of sustainability-focused leaders at Microsoft. Great things ahead for the Planetary Computer - stay tuned!

An overview by @TomAugspurger of how @Microsoft Planetary Computer uses @STACspec and cloud-optimized file formats for exposing nearly 50pb of data #satsummit

I am so excited that @felt has brought @enf on board and is investing in Tippecanoe. I learned about it less than a year ago when I came back to 'vector', and became convinced that it is _the_ key project to get us to a 'cloud-native vector' format.
I am also really pleased to have been able to revive Tippecanoe as an open source project at Felt (github.com/felt/tippecanoe). There is a blog interview with me (felt.com/blog/erica-fischer-…) where I talk about its origin and evolution and how we are using it in processing user uploads

🏆 We have a winner🎉 - Planetary Computer is now CORS-friendly (thanks @lossyrob). Easy STAC asset rendering (with reprojection support) coming to a mapping library near you soon! 20l25l.csb.app/
How about a friendly @STACspec shootout? What is the "best" STAC source of Sentinel 2 (L2A) imagery? To be best, you have to be at STAC v1 and have publicly accessible CORS-enabled COGs with overviews. Bonus points for an online search UI.

Hey @STACspec curious folks! @petegadomski is adding STAC output of the @GdalOrg `gdalinfo -json` command github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/6… which was an idea hatched at #FOSS4G2022 because good things happen when people meet in person 🙂

Diffusion models like #DALLE and #StableDiffusion are state of the art for image generation, yet our understanding of them is in its infancy. This thread introduces the basics of how diffusion models work, how we understand them, and why I think this understanding is broken.🧵
