On this special occasion of #PoliticalPrisonersDay
in the face of years of unjust detention, severe communication restrictions, and inhumane treatment, we hope more people will respond to, support, and join Luo Shengchun's call:
We collectively demand that the Chinese authorities immediately and unconditionally release Mr. Ding Jiaxi!
Advocating for civic engagement, peaceful expression of grievances, the rule of law, and freedom of speech are fundamental constitutional rights of citizens, not crimes. Nearly seven years of arbitrary detention, denial of outdoor exercise, and cutting off basic voice communication with his family constitute a cruel violation of basic human rights and humanitarian principles.
We urge the international community and democratic governments worldwide to maintain high attention and take concrete action to pressure the Chinese government to cease its persecution of human rights defenders, so that Mr. Ding Jiaxi can regain his freedom and reunite with his family at the earliest possible date!

#FreedomStartsWithDingJiaxi On #PoliticalPrisoners Day, I call on the government of China to release my husband Ding Jiaxi. He has been unjustly imprisoned since December 26, 2019, simply for advocating peacefully for civic engagement, freedom of speech, and the rule of law. Throughout his detention he has been suffering no daily yard time torture. We have only been able to communicate by strictly censored letters. He was not allowed to call me and we have not heard each other's voice since his detention. I ask democratic governments to raise his case and help bring my husband home to our family.

For nearly 7 years, Sophie Luo @luoshch has not heard her husband Ding Jiaxi’s voice. China imprisoned him for peacefully advocating freedom and the rule of law.
Today at the Lincoln Memorial, we will speak his name—and those of other political prisoners.
Join us at 5pm. #FreedomStartsWithAName

There are more than 1 million political prisoners around the world, behind bars for daring to speak, worship, assemble, and express themselves freely.
Today, @NEDemocracy honored leaders who have worked tirelessly to free them. Their efforts remind us that standing with those who choose freedom is a proud American tradition.

Amen🙏🙏🙏!

Beijing is plain wrong.
🇬🇧 not only has every right, but a responsibility, to speak up for Hong Kong, under the Sino-British Joint Declaration, a UN-registered treaty (which 🇨🇳 has completely and brazenly violated and trampled on).
Beijing has no right to break its treaty promises.
Beijing says the UK has “no right” to comment on Hong Kong. The UK just published its 59th report anyway.
On October 22, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband’s report said Hong Kong’s national security laws are expanding, “stifling debate,” and tightening limits on speech, assembly, and the press. It called for the immediate release of Jimmy Lai, a British citizen sentenced to 20 years in February who has spent more than 5.5 years in detention. It also flagged the Hong Kong Alliance trials (including Chow Hang-tung) and the 8-month sentence given to the father of exiled activist Anna Kwok.
China’s embassy called it “gross interference” the same day and told the UK to drop its “colonial mentality.” Its argument: the Joint Declaration only covered China resuming sovereignty, so Britain has no post-1997 right of supervision.
Hong Kong’s government followed on October 23, “strongly condemning” the “slanders and smears.” It said the laws only target national security threats, pointed to Lai’s 855-page evidence-based verdict (he did not appeal), cited record IPO fundraising, and accused the UK of double standards over its own security arrests.
