Australian universities have been abandoned by the government and are facing huge losses. You can read my piece on how financialisation helped cause this mess at @OverlandJournal.
Autonomy, including financial autonomy, is essential if our universities are to operate as critics and conscience of society. COVID-19 has bleakly exposed the inadequacy of their dominant corporatised, profit-driven governance model, writes @lyndang. overland.org.au/2020/09/wher…

The most Christmassy of Australian birds.

Chevron’s income selling Australian gas last year was $33 BILLION.
They got virtually all the gas for free (didn’t pay royalties), and paid $0 PRRT
Now they’re cutting jobs

The #USElection2024 is a timely reminder that for all its faults, Australian democracy is a model for the world.
➡️ Independently administered elections
➡️ Voters can list their true preferences without throwing away their vote
➡️ Compulsory voting ensures all voices are heard.

Love how they're trying to sell this as a big win. Students are still paying 80% more for uni than Albanese's generation did.
