Visited this factory in China.
Before they needed 10 people, now only one is in charge🤦♂️
Just spent 1 dollar (6.75 rmb) for a 6.5 km ride (15 minutes) in rural China🤦♂️
It’s like being in another country inside the country
That’s why you can arbitrage prices even within China itself and don’t need to go to other countries complicating your supply chain
Why Chinese factories prefer to work for export markets:
- better prices
- shorter payment terms
- less competition (relatively)
Domestic market is really tough:
- lower margins
- longer payment terms
- high competition
Obviously there are exceptions but mostly is like this
Alo Yoga opening a mega shop in Shanghai in what used to be a Gucci store is a sign of the times of retail in China
Luxury down (that shop used to do 60 million dollars sales at peak)
Now it’s time for activewear in China
Alo and Lululemon opening many shops it’s a clear indicator of where the money is flowing
Chinese are now dominating video AI generation
Seedance 2.5 is the leader, but there are also good runners up like Wan, Kling, MiniMax, Vidu
Also a lot of mini drama apps are Chinese
For this reasons there are great video editors too
E-channel at Pudong airport is super fast
Few seconds and immigration is done
Much faster than in European airports
Get a consultation with Chinese suppliers and do the same!
If you buy supplements from China (like we do) be careful when the price is too cheap!
I know the temptation is to buy, but the reality is that they will put 50-60% of the requested ingredients
Spend a bit more
There are lots of serious Chinese factories with integrity
Reminder that automotive is a super tough business
Hyper competitive Chinese competition (and global), cyclical and you always have to spend on new models that may or may not sell well
That’s why Musk is focusing on data centers
Tesla's total Q3 revenues of $28 billion were flat year over year (Automotive -3% YoY). Net Income of $787 million was down 43% from a year ago. Operating margins fell to 2.6% from 5.8% a year ago. Free cash flow of $1.5 billion was down 62% YoY due to a spike in capital expenditures (up 110% YoY to $4.7 billion). $TSLA
$SPCX is an interesting case study we can learn from:
Started with Space where the TAM is (relatively) limited, moved to Internet service provider (bigger TAM), then in the last year went all in on datacenters (huge)
Lesson: don't get stuck in your niche!
(we can do the same)
After the Chinese AI wrapper, now the Chinese robots wrapper
I think it's a model that can work (like it works for many other products ex: phones, cars etc)
At the end of the day you just focus on functionality, distribution and service

European banking system down, apparently due to a Google outage
Not only Revolut, but i see other banks too
If tomorrow even 30% of the customer want to withdraw cash, the banking system collapses....

HK/China experts what is the best HK Sim that can be used in China for both data and calls/SMS?
Any suggestion also where to buy? Can i buy in China or only in HK?
DMs are open
Many people don't know but a big part of Chinese export to EU are intermediate products, i.e. goods that are used to manufacture or assemble final products
Shutting down China will result in inflation
Tariffs do exist already, some up to 80% and more

Another year of growth for China economy
For the most part is generated by export
This growth helps the government buy time to fix the asphyxiated domestic market
As i have being saying for a while export is where the opportunity is now in China

Just heard that containerships from China will soon start to pass through Red Sea and Suez
Perhaps 30 to 40% of ships
Hope it's true and it puts an end to this farce that is shipping in the last two years
Chinese friends and followers: do you know anyone working for Bytedance/Seedance?

Another new industry coming out of China

Keep an eye on this, as there are companies building apps and content for mini drama that are printing money....
