Zig or Go: How I Choose

I have written several books on Go and one on Zig, so every time I start something new I have to decide which of the two to use. The answer is not always the same and I do not think one language is...

Allocators in Zig: Which One and When

In Zig the convention is that every function that needs heap memory takes an allocator as a parameter and you decide which one to give it. The language does not enforce this and any function can use...

My latest blog post is about the go list -json option. Learn how to get package data out of the Go tool. Read it at mtsoukalos.eu/2026/10/the-go… #golang @golang

The go list -json Option

After The go -x Option I wanted to write about another Go flag that I use more than I expected to. The go list command prints the import paths of the packages you give it and most people never go...

How to use Command Line Arguments in Zig. How std.process.Init hands you the arguments in Zig 0.17, why toSlice() wants an arena and how to walk them with an iterator and no allocator at all. mtsoukalos.eu/2026/10/comman… #ziglang #Zig #SystemsProgramming

Command Line Arguments in Zig

Most of the Zig programs on this blog begin with the same line that reads the command line arguments and I have never explained it. This post is about that line, what it gives you back and what you...
