Tokenizing the Ocean
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is actively positioning itself to step into this 2027 structural shift, moving well beyond simple retail payments.
Instantaneous "pacs" Messages: Ripple is deeply embedded within the ISO 20022 infrastructure. When a shipping conglomerate needs to unlock funds the second a boat docks, legacy banks take days to process international transfers. Cryptocurrencies and agnostic protocols (like the XRP Ledger) utilize data-rich message formats (such as pacs.008 and pacs.009) to settle value peer-to-peer in under five seconds, completely bypassing intermediary banking chains.
Tokenizing the Ocean: The major focus heading into 2027 is Real-World Asset (RWA) Tokenization. Ripple’s corporate roadmap explicitly targets tokenizing physical assets onto the ledger. In practice, this means a literal Bill of Lading, a shipping container, or an entire vessel's cargo can be minted as a digital token on a blockchain.
