For the last 5 months, I’ve been working on Hazel, and I’m super excited to finally share a first open beta version: hazel.sh, try it out now!
Fully open source as always of course github.com/HazelChat/hazel
I started building Hazel because I’ve been super unhappy with work chat apps for quite some time. Slack feels lacking in a lot of areas, customization support feels limited, Discord is amazing but sadly feels way too unprofessional, and I don’t even want to talk about Teams…
I knew it would be a fool’s task to try to build something to replace these tools, but I wanted to try anyway and quickly got obsessed. I kept grinding on it more and more, slowly chipping away at one thing after another, and I can finally say I’m happy enough to use Hazel over any of the other solutions for my day‑to‑day communication, it's far from perfect but in a state I would love to get some feedback to make this truly the best communication platform.
I built Hazel from the ground up with @EffectTS_ , @ElectricSQL , and @tanstack db to not only make it really, really fun to develop, but also great to use and maintain.
For now, some core features include:
- Public / Private / DM channels
- Threads & replies
- Reactions & file uploads
-A media explorer
- A smart notification system
…and much, much more.
Hazel is far from done, but I hope I can inspire some of you to join me on this journey to do the impossible and build the Slack of the modern era.
After over a month of iterating on @Mapledotdev PR review I'm beyond happy how far good it has become
If you haven't you should give it a try, it just gets billed per token usage so should also be a lot cheaper than any other tool out there
- one review costs less than 7 cents on average
- has become super accurate and fun to use
- has me me way more confident something won't break prod with it's checks
- does actual prod checks via your Maple otel data making it far more useful than other tools in the field
Took a lot of iterating and feedback from others to get to where it is and proudly build on @yielded_dev agents and @Cloudflare durable objects, and is also open source if you would like to take inspiration for you own review agent

I have been starting to revive my chat app Hazel, have been rebuilding it to be fully running on @Cloudflare Durable Objects and rewritten the entire frontend with @foldkit .
I'm certained my initial vision for Hazel is now more relevant than ever with the new ways teams work together.
Full Cloudflare + Foldkit version is already live but still a long way to go for some of the bigger reworks I have planned, will use this to keep me accountable for shipping and swichting fulltime to it in 2 weeks 👀
Since Maple has grown into having such a big product service, and a lot of people are searching for an easy way to add instrumentation to their sideprojects I'm starting to work on making Maple Local (basically a speced down OTEL only version of Maple), easy to self host.
One docker container, attach a volume and you are done. Runs on 1GB of ram, includes ingest, dashboard and query api.
This is one the easiest and cheapest ways to self host your own small observability platform.
Love to hear any use cases or wishes to extend the self hosted option here, will add one click deploys for various platforms soon.

Maple has naturally been transforming into more than just an OTel-based observability platform, which honestly makes it harder for me to pitch and describe.
It's not just a warehouse with a query engine and an MCP server. Maple deeply integrates with all your providers, works amazing for product analytics, web errors and session replays, and also lets you build alerts on literally anything. User signups down, memory usage in your pods too high, latency of a specific endpoint too high, or even alerts on slow queries or database load. The possibilities are endless.
Maple also helps you improve your CI, does AI code review with all the context of your production data, and soon will include security monitoring across all your connected services, be it AWS, OpenRouter usage, Cloudflare, your email sending service etc. On top of that, full-on deep AI security scans across your codebase and your infra.
With agents now, the value of having all your monitoring, analytics and observability in one place is so high. They can deeply understand how your entire stack works to improve performance, debug issues and find security issues.
Still not sure how to really describe this too well and showcase the value you get from this commitment into using Maple and embracing the platform.
Sugar high was already such a performant highlighting lib, crazy to me @pierrecomputer highlights is still thaaaat much perfomant in my testing

We’re launching incident management in @openstatushq. Built for small teams that live in Slack.
Live on Product Hunt today. 🐱

I know github stars are not as important anymore with all the AI libs reaching over 100k stars but I would LOVE to hit 2000 stars on github an we are really not that far off, appreciate any star 🫶

Also comes with a new stupidly easy to use Maple @foldkit SDK maple.dev/docs/sdks/effect-f…
It's crazy how powerful it has been to find slow renders, updates and actions.
Last weekend I moved Maple off React and onto @foldkit
100+ pages, 300k+ lines of React. Took me a few hours planning and building a validation harness, then 3 days with Claude to run the rewrite. The result is a 1:1 clone down to every. interaction and animation, with renders ~10% faster on average
It's been in production for a week and nobody noticed the switch
If you spend the time on a good validation harness, you can rewrite almost anything now
Wrote a bit more about why here: maple.dev/blog/react-to-fold…

Haven't really posted about it much, but @Mapledotdev has a PR Review feature for quite some time now and has been getting insanely good.
It's not only checking your code for correctness, bugs or critical vulnerabilities, it also knows all your O11y data and all errors that happened throughout the edited code paths and will both warn you for any critical production paths to be more careful, as well as can check if your change fixes an error seen in prod.
And the best part it's either just billed by token cost or Bring your own openrouter key, with free choice of model and what it should check.
We have been running it over 2000 reviews last month on Maple's repo alone for under 200$ while outperforming our previous review agent.
One customer has already improved their CI speed by 50% through optimizing CI via Maple MCP
CI has been getting os slow I needed better tools to fix it.
Now @Mapledotdev 's GitHub integration traces every workflow run automatically.
your agent can query all of it too.

Been building an @EffectTS_ native ORM for a while, and it's finally ready for some of you to try.
- includes ClickHouse + Postgres
- Fully typesafe
- Migrations for both, and it can adopt your existing drizzle-kit migrations
Still early, but it's been running @Mapledotdev in production for about a month.
