We also ran a Jhāna Visualization Contest, to which anyone could submit entries before the retreat. Participants rated every entry against each jhāna they had reached, with each rater's own entries excluded.
And we judged the judges! After the meditation retreat, two advanced meditators independently interviewed each participant, and we used their assessments to decide which jhāna ratings to count at all.
