The flight was not listed on Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport's official public schedule, according to AFP. The landing came as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's threat took effect. On Monday, Bessent said that from 23 September, Iranian airlines would be "shut down around the world" and warned that entities providing them with fuel, landing services or ticket sales would risk being "knocked out of the dollar system." The landing also came as some Iranian international flights were cancelled following the new US measures, while routes to several destinations, including China, remained operational.
