Before WC, I didn’t understand why every store in the US was filled with MESSI merch. Little American kids running around wearing Messi jerseys. Frankly, it annoyed me.
I’ve watched this entire tournament, and after the England game last night I get it now. Totally legit. Dude is on a completely different level. I forget he is even on the field sometimes, but then he gets the ball and something shakes loose in him that is just magical. It is a joy to watch.

The UK is a place where if a white person commits a crime it simply remains a crime. Arrest, court case, jail, that's it.
But if a black or brown person commits a similar crime (or God forbid a Muslim) then it's 24/7 media coverage, calls for mass deportations of people who share the same skin colour, racist pogroms, Cobra meetings and national emergencies.
White privilege, white supremacy. Racism alive and well.
