If you grew up obsessed with Harry Potter like I did, you know where the inspiration for this feature came from 😊

Underrated life advice: Be careful what you normalize just because everyone else does it. Complaining about your spouse. Being glued to your phone. Hating Mondays. Creating drama. Spending money you don’t have. The worst habits always come with plenty of company. Avoid the trap.

This summer I got tired of building email and meeting agents, so I started building things for my community. First, a food truck menu finder. Then, a community assistant that explains HOA rules in plain English. And now, a map with everything I wished Google Maps would tell me: local makers, parks and trails, what’s being built nearby I’ve never had this much fun building things.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Remote work is what you make it You had zero control over the office environment, but that's no longer true when remote. Don't like something? Do something about it. I've been working remotely for 11+ years. Saved a bajillion commute hours, had priceless moments with my baby, and get to live life my way. No issues with people who prefer in office work. There are plenty of openings begging for people to go back in the office. Free the remote spot for someone who will make the most of it. But I do have any issue with people trying to take away remote opportunities from others just bc they don't know how to handle autonomy.

My weekly Codex review is still one of my favorite automations. It reviews exactly how I used ChatGPT/Codex then gives me specific tips on what I’m underutilizing and what new features came out recently that would be specifically helpful to me. Can’t believe I missed the event-triggered tasks release!

Whenever someone tells me they're expecting their first baby and they're nervous, I tell them the following: 'Oh my goodness, that's wonderful. I am so happy for you. Listen, of course you're nervous but here's the deal: you're ready for all the bad stuff. You've been very tired before. You've been in pain before. You've been worried about money before. You've felt like an incapable moron before. So you'll be fine with the difficult parts! You're already a pro. What you're NOT ready for is the wonderful parts. NOTHING can prepare you for how amazing this will be. There is no practice for that. (via Rob Delaney, A Heart That Works)
you CANNOT understand how cute your kids will be to you. it is incomprehensible. I spend 50% of my free time looking at photos and videos of my children and just feeling really really really good. they are SO AMAZING. and so cute! 🤩

Haven't shared much about my community AI work here but comments like these make my day 😊 There's a lot of focus on the flashy AI builds, but it's the boring but helpful ones like this that make a real difference in everyday life

Congrats to @linear for proving that it’s possible to be: - Profitable - High growth - Fully remote
Today we're announcing our second employee tender offer. We passed $100m ARR earlier this year and now have more than 40,000 paying customers. The tender lets our teammates participate in that success at a $2.5B valuation: linear.app/now/sharing-growt…

What I want: One UI to send a message to multiple AI chats (Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT), so I can compare responses. Also, want it to connect via sign in instead of API key. Is this a thing yet?

Idea Kitchen is back from summer break with a new roundup of the 5 best ways to remove AI slop from your drafts. Includes what to try if: 1. You type “make this sound less like AI” and get back the same thing 2. Your “don’t sound like AI” skill is six months old 3. You only wanted the typos fixed, and it rewrote your sentences 4. Your AI draft hallucinated a feature you don’t sell 5. Your drafts come back sounding like someone else + 3 bonus links: how a journalist uses AI in her daily work, how to build an AI style guide, and a print magazine personalized just for you See the list: @IdeaKitchenAI

Underdiscussed AI benefit: Cutting phone screen time dramatically Never been my direct goal but I’ve noticed significant drops for every workflow/agent/etc I’ve put in place since April

Around once a quarter, I do something called "Whimward Week" for work. I let go of all shoulds and replace it with following my whims. This means: - No scheduled meetings (only what I decide to book that week) - No workday schedule - No tasks I wake up in the morning and just ask: "what do I feel like doing?" then follow that This time, it led to a lot of reading, falling down learning rabbit holes, and building a mini app for my community to share restaurants/stores/etc opening soon nearby. In the past, it led to the creation of Idea Kitchen and much more. We're taught very early to silence our whims. They're seen as selfish and undisciplined. But I think we underestimate the energy it takes to keep them locked in a box forever. When we start feeling unsure about our path or falling off disciplined habits, our tendency is to try to push harder. Force ourselves back in line. I find the opposite approach to be more effective. Like a valve release. If you're feeling lost, I encourage you to even just do a Whimward hour. You might be surprised where you end up.

A good job in today’s economy should be one that you can wander around in the middle of the day for a two hour break without people tracking you and also will give you insane challenges that you want to work on other times

Started reading while waiting on my agents instead of scrolling or frying my brain with context switching. Read 2,000+ pages last week.
