Soda-Laden Truck Involved in Road Accident at Notorious Black Spot Near Dedan Kimathi University Along Nyeri-Nyahururu Road.
I read a story somewhere that gave me chills...
Someone shared a near-death incident from yesterday evening.
They were coming from work in a matatu to town, and got off before the official stop because of traffic - near the roundabout at Bomblast. They were three of them trying to cross the road.
They crossed the first lane and were standing on the pedestrian refuge island, waiting for traffic to slow on the next lane.
That's when they saw death coming. A rowdy bus came aggressively driving on the WRONG side, straight towards them. They were shell-shocked, couldn't move, couldn't cross back because cars on the other lane had just been released and were moving fast.
They said they and a random girl just held each other and screamed. The driver only braked literally this close to them. It was the bus hawkers who were banging the bus to make him stop.
This was around 5pm, broad daylight, clear visibility, and they were even wearing red.
By the time they crossed to the other side, they couldn't feel their legs, couldn't stop crying. Whole body was trembling.
They said they don't know the intention of that driver and will never know, but they are traumatized and will have nightmares from it.
And the worst part? A traffic officer just came and gave them a pep talk.
What a scary state of our roads.
I read a story somewhere that really stuck with me...
"Horrors of being intersex" - someone was sharing their personal journey.
They said they were happy to finally see intersex awareness on the news, but it also brought back a lot of regret and sadness.
They talked about how tough growing up was. Their mum didn't acknowledge it, family thought it was a curse. In high school, in a boys school, they got a lot of hate from students and even a teacher for behaving femininely, and people would automatically assume they were gay.
They tried to 'change' by becoming hyper religious, praying to feel and live as a man, but that's not what they wanted or who they are. They said living in deep self-hatred is such a heavy task.
Now they are working on their mental health, but there's the health challenge - they experience period blood that accumulates in the body because it doesn't have an outlet, and the surgery needed is way too expensive. Getting hormone treatment is also daunting. They can't live as the woman they'd like to be.
On top of that, economy ni mbaya, pockets are shallow. They thought they'd grind last year to get the cash, but it was just a teenage pipedream.
And dating - almost impossible. Either someone wants to fetishize you or they have a secret agenda to hurt you for not fitting societal norms.
Their final message was simple:
If you have kids, teach them to be open minded about such stuff, so the next generation doesn't have it as rough, doesn't have to live in fear and make themselves smaller.
And if you have the chance to live life, LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST. Even with their challenges, they hope they'll have the capacity to live happily in the end.
It was a heavy, honest read.

Your speed and Your drunk driving is not fun. You are a murderer behind a wheel.
RIP to the victims of this morning's Ngong Road crash.
This Uber driver has complained that some passengers come with strong body odour, alcohol smell, or that fishy smell and then they close all windows. He has to inhale it for the whole trip.
Take a shower, wear deodorant, carry perfume before you request an Uber.
Three people have died following a grisly road accident at Kenol Stage along Ngong Road, near Talanta Stadium in Nairobi.
The accident involved a dark blue Toyota Mark X that was reportedly speeding from the Ngong direction before the driver lost control. The car veered off the road, hit an embankment and burst into flames.
One of the victims was a woman who was waiting for a matatu to the city centre when the car hit her. Two other people reportedly sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.
In case you didn't know if you feel it in your chest,
it's fear.
If you feel it in your stomach,
it's intuition.
If you feel it in your head,
it's anger.
If you feel it throughout your muscles then it's anxiety.
if you feel it in your mouth,
it's disgust.
If you feel it in your throat, that's sadness.
If you feel it throughout your face, that's shame.
If you feel it throughout your entire body, that's happiness.
