New #SNAP tracker from @CenterOnBudget shows people in every state are losing food benefits following the enactment of the harmful Republican megabill: cbpp.org/research/food-assis…
Last July, the Republican megabill (H.R. 1) enacted the deepest SNAP cuts in history. Today, we're releasing a tracker of how many people in each state are losing the SNAP benefits they need to afford groceries. cbpp.org/research/food-assis…
State and local policymakers can take action to mitigate the impact of these harmful federal policies and make investments in the housing and supportive services that work for people in their communities. For starters, they can:
My new paper details how the Trump Admin is pushing policies that 1) take assistance away while making housing *less*affordable and 2) punish people who become homeless because they can’t afford rent. cbpp.org/research/housing/tr…
3️⃣ Invest in dignified interim housing options that help more people safely get off the street, while rejecting calls to fine and arrest people who have no place to live. housingequityframework.org/r…

As people across the country struggle to afford housing, HUD proposed a rule today that would force 20,000 families with mixed immigration statuses to choose between losing the assistance that helps them pay rent every month or separating their family.

As I said to @NYTimes, HUD’s latest move to temporarily withdraw its #homelessness funding notice is just more chaos. Meanwhile, people’s housing hangs in the balance. nytimes.com/2025/12/09/us/po…

With the harmful Republican megabill shifting costs to states, lawmakers must raise new revenues and protect existing ones to safeguard health care, food assistance, and other vital services while building stronger, more equitable communities. cbpp.org/blog/states-must-pr…
HUD is changing how homelessness funding works in ways that will return people to the streets, leave supportive housing on the brink, and further strain already decimated state and local budgets
🧵It’s official - @HUDgov is slashing overall permanent housing funds by roughly 2/3 in its main #homelessness solutions program – the Continuum of Care(CoC). If Congress doesn’t undo this harmful change, over 170K formerly unhoused people will lose housing assistance next year.
State and local policymakers need to act swiftly to demand that Congress put a stop to this rushed, illogical, and inhumane policy shift, and fully fund the housing resources their communities need.

A program that provides an average benefit of about $6.20 per person per day is not bloated. It is essential, it is survival, and it is critical.
If families don't get their SNAP benefits, this doesn't just mean they won't be able to put food on their table - but their table might be at risk altogether if they then can't afford to make their rent. The Trump admin needs to release SNAP funds immediately.

Everyone deserves an affordable home, including our neighbors, friends, & coworkers who are immigrants. But a Trump Admin plan would take assistance away from certain immigrant families and create additional barriers to rental assistance for everyone. propublica.org/article/trump…
This week, Trump ordered the fed takeover of local police & mobilized the nat'l guard and ICE in DC, w/ threats of action toward many including unhoused ppl. This is an abuse of power and an escalation of cruel anti-homeless policies across the country: cbpp.org/research/housing/st…
Attacking people for being unable to afford the rent or for experiencing a mental health condition is the wrong approach. Fines, tickets, detention centers do a lot of harm to people, and do not solve their housing crisis.
State and local policymakers should instead look to real solutions: endhomelessness.org/wp-conte…
