Hey there #COVIDisNotOver friends. My wife @mchristinebd and I put our heads together and made a flier about basic COVID-19 precautions - particularly for small events/gatherings. All the icons and entire flier are CC0/public domain/free to use: bit.ly/lesscovid 🧵1/2

For anyone getting into biology, please consider taking airborne disease resistance more seriously. It's a super important area of medicine that is a huge cause of death and sickness but easily gets forgotten. We're likely to get many more airborne plagues in the future due to the combination of not just extremely dense and interconnected society (including city and farm animals), but also accidents from bio research and offensive biotech (both from random people and from secret government programs that can easily get themselves exempted from safety restrictions), all enhanced by powerful AI. Right now, this area is getting way less love than longevity research (which continues to be super important!), but it's an area where there are lots of unclaimed wins that we know exactly how to do (but are not yet doing) with present-day tech: * early detection * passive universal testing * filtration/ventilation/UVC * better vaccines (including making them open source and open science) * cryptography to make all of the above privacy-preserving We can have China-level pandemic resistance with Sweden-level limited intrusion into people's lives, and then go even further. We just have to actually do the work for it.

We're just shy of reaching $5000 in donations to #cancer research. I hope we can get there, so I can compete wearing 100 N95s. Any donation by 2pm CT tomorrow (Sat, Oct 17) will go toward the mask count! Let's establish a World Record! 🏃‍♂️
I’m doing a 5K on October 18th to support research at the Tulane Cancer Center, here in the Deep South. I wanted to do something fun, so in addition to wearing an N95, I will wear an additional N95 on my person for every $50 donated (runsignup.com/mask). $50 = 1 N95 $500 = 10 N95s $5,000 = 100 N95s $50,000 = 1,000 N95s Any partial donation would help. $10 would add an additional mask for 1K of the race. A penny would add 1 meter with an additional mask. I’ll sum partial donations and round up in the end. Even a penny🪙 or reshare🔁 would help. FAQs World Record 🔹There does not presently appear to be a Guinness World Record for most N95s on an individual in a 5K. 🔹This year, I will go for an informal record. Guinness has not yet responded to my request to go for an official record, but there is always next year. Good Health, Safety, and Environmental Modeling 🔹I will mask properly. Extra masks will not be worn on top of my mask. 🔹All masks will be individually-wrapped N95s. I will eventually wear them or donate them, if someone wants them. Caveats 🔹It’s a fun run. All donations are final, even if weather or an injury strikes. Inclusivity 🔹There are many ways to support health and health justice. Please also contribute to your local mask bloc or engage in advocacy in other ways too. There are many great causes. 🔹Many people with chronic and serious illnesses are housebound or cannot run or could run but would then crash for days or weeks after. This is no endorsement of the primacy of exercise-based activities. How Your Donation Helps 🔹Your donation supports the fight against cancer and normalizes masking. 🔹Funds support the Tulane Cancer Center. Last year’s funds went toward a project to reduce the chances of bone metastases in the context of breast cancer. 🔹I avoid financial conflicts of interest like the plague, so I will not accept any payments or apply for any funds. Please help spread the word!

AirFanta 5Pro Officially Launched: Two Years in the Making, Fully Evolved We are excited to announce the launch of our new air purifier, the AirFanta 5Pro, following two years of design and manufacturing. The 5Pro has been redesigned based on the structure of the 3Pro, with improvements across the board: it looks better and is easier to install. In terms of performance, the CADR remains outstanding. Measured in an AHAM-certified laboratory, the results are as follows: PM2.5: 393 CFM SMOKE: 379 CFM DUST: 408 CFM Pollen: >450 CFM We are also applying for AHAM and ENERGY STAR certification. In addition, the 5Pro now features a PM2.5 sensor and display, as well as an Auto mode. When disassembled, it can still fit into a 20-inch suitcase, making it easy to carry and store. For purchase links and more information, please click the link below: air-fanta.com/products/airfa… It is currently available for purchase in the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and countries across East Asia and Southeast Asia.

Someone is lying to you about COVID and you can either believe sick people or the government.
I do feel bad for the covid-conscious people. Every major health authority said for years “there’s a massive pandemic that’s killing/disabling millions; do not leave the house,” then pretty quickly flipped to “eh nevermind lol.” Reasonable to go a bit insane processing that

The french government trying to stop people taking sick leave rather than trying to prevent the illness... it's just madness. "Working conditions, Covid... why have so many French people ever been on sick leave?"

Thanks NBC News for adding my name! It's extremely helpful when we're explaining the downstream impact of our research.
The CDC raised its benchmark for levels of the Covid virus in wastewater, adjusting a key metric for assessing the disease’s transmission. As a result, officials may now classify a level that once counted as high transmission as moderate instead. nbcnews.com/data-graphics/cd…

I am not disabled or immunocompromised. I still mask because I know what a single (let alone multiple, compounding) COVID infection(s) can do to a person. It's lonely and isolating and it's made so much worse by ostensible "leftists" promoting eugenics bc they don't want to mask.

That paper making the rounds today showing that SARS2 is found in basically all air samples (taken over 10 hours daily) in airports is so significant far beyond airports & even being airborne. There are so many pieces to this puzzle that people seem desperate to not put together.

It's hard to watch so many people in Pennsylvania alarmed by the state's measles outbreak but still not wearing masks. In hospitals, schools, or really anywhere for that matter. COVID never left and now measles is on the rise. N95 or better masks could make a world of difference.

You’ve got to hand it to them. They changed the language. Changed the guidance. Changed the metrics. Changed the dashboards. Changed what counted. Changed what we counted. Spent months arguing droplets while the virus rode the fucking air. Then eventually Oh. Ventilation. Filtration. Aerosols. Indoor air. Who knew. They declared emergencies over and people heard: Disease over. They retired dashboards. Relaxed reporting. Stopped testing. Stopped counting as carefully. Then pointed at the numbers we stopped collecting and said: See? Better. They took a systemic problem and privatized it. Your mask. Your vaccine. Your test. Your risk. Your kid. Your elderly parent. Your immunocompromised neighbor. Your problem. A virus transmitted between human beings became a matter of personal responsibility. Amazing trick. They watched vaccine confidence erode. Watched misinformation metastasize. Watched people go from lining up for vaccines to treating basic immunology like a fucking personality test. They taught a generation that infection is inevitable. That repeated infection is normal. That protecting other people is neurotic. That staying home sick is unreasonable. That wanting clean indoor air is somehow more radical than breathing sewage through a HEPA filter would be. They turned “living with COVID” into pretending COVID had stopped living with us. Meanwhile: People still get COVID. People still get hospitalized. People still die. People still develop Long COVID. Kids develop it. Healthy adults develop it. Workers leave the workforce because of it. NIH keeps spending hundreds of millions studying it. The Department of Defense studies it because chronic post-COVID illness can affect military readiness. Read that again. We can’t talk about COVID at Thanksgiving without somebody rolling their eyes, but the fucking Pentagon is worried about what it does to readiness. That is where we are. COVID became something that “happened.” A historical period. An aesthetic. Zoom school. Sourdough. Tiger King. Masks. Lockdowns. Remember COVID? Yeah. I remember polio too. Still wouldn’t lick the fucking iron lung. We performed perhaps the greatest linguistic disappearing act of the pandemic: We ended the emergency, and somehow convinced ourselves we ended the disease. The virus didn’t sign the memo. SARS-CoV-2 did not attend the press conference. It did not agree to the new terminology. It did not care that everybody was exhausted. It did not care that prevention became politically inconvenient. It did not care that the economy wanted 2019 back. It just kept infecting people. And perhaps the most astonishing part is how thoroughly we normalized the contradiction. We’ll spend billions studying Long COVID while acting embarrassed to say “COVID.” We’ll fund biomedical research into post-viral disability while designing schools, workplaces, hospitals, restaurants and public buildings as though airborne infectious disease is somebody else’s problem. We’ll tell disabled people: We believe you. And then build society around maximizing opportunities to create more of them. We’ll tell parents they’re free to send sick children into classrooms. Tell workers they’re free to come to work infected. Tell everyone else they’re free to breathe the same air. Freedom everywhere. Except freedom from preventable exposure. Six and a half years. And where is the reckoning? Where is the investigation into what we learned? Where is the massive clean-air infrastructure program? Where are the ventilation standards people can actually see? Where is paid sick leave worthy of an airborne pandemic? Where is the cultural norm that says: If you’re infectious, don’t fucking infect other people? Instead we got amnesia. We got euphemisms. We got “summer flu.” “Something going around.” “Just a cold.” “Mystery illness.” Anything except the word that might remind us we made choices.
