Really enjoyed talking to the @Moreincommon_ podcast this week about our @wellcometrust collaboration with them on trust in science. Starts at about 43 mins. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas…
Does Reform UK have a science problem?
This week we were joined by @markgfh from @wellcometrust to discuss our report on trust in science, and how Britain's populist right is different from movements in other counries when it comes to public attitudes on science and scientists.

How does your best bowler only bowl overs 8 and 11 when your only chance of winning is wickets? And still hasn’t bowled 2 with 22 to win and 6 left… #t20wc2026
In @wellcomettrust’s trust in science programme, we want to encourage scientists, and people who care about and value science, to think about how they can better earn public trust. It’s been great to contribute an oped to this week’s @nature in this vein (link in next post) 🧵
None of this means that scientists shouldn’t have and argue for political beliefs, or to play an active part in public policy. But to earn the trust across the political spectrum that's needed for stable long-term influence, it pays to reflect on these challenges.
If you're interested in the @Moreincommon_ research which informed the piece, it's available here. Thanks @LukeTryl and the team. wellcome.org/insights/report…

It's been brilliant to collaborate with @LukeTryl and @Moreincommon_ team on this. I've also written about this today linkedin.com/posts/mark-hend…
🧪 We have a major new report out today with @wellcometrust on trust in science. While we find that the UK has so far avoided the polarisation of science we see elsewhere and science is a source of optimism. There are signs the public’s trust is becoming lukewarm & conditional.
Outstanding!
