We had a kid in our friend group accused of SA in college. A year or so later, huge shocker, she admitted it was all fabricated to avoid getting punished for underage drinking. Without any investigation, our guy was removed from the officer commissioning program where he was one of the most competent and widely loved students in his peer group, and basically blacklisted on campus. She took everything from him (at the time), most importantly his reputation. Left without many choices, he decided to enlist, and worked his way up to become an officer in one of the most elite and storied units in American military history. He was and still is a good man, and I'm glad it all worked out for him. But there's a certain level of damage done when you falsely attach certain labels to people that never goes away, even after they are cleared of all wrongdoing. You can tarnish in a millisecond what it takes a lifetime to restore. It's clear why God prohibits bearing false witness against our neighbor. In many cases, it's more harmful than murder.
